Going to Disney sick?

Hey guys so our trip to disney is in 4 days. I have been sick since March and the doctors yesterday finally figured out what is wrong with me. Turns out I have gallstones and some problems with my right hip. The doctor said I was okay to travel I just need to take breaks from walking and drink more water than normal (over 100 ounces). When I come back I need to have surgery done to fix the stones.

So my question is have any of you gone to the world with something like this going on? Did it ruin your trip?

I really want to postpone the trip but we would lose all the money from airfare.

I went with gall bladder issues in February and while it doesn't appear to be as bad as yours, I kept to a low fat diet as much as humanly possible and was fine for almost all of the trip. I decided on one of Minnie's bake shop cookies one night and it was NOT a good idea.

I just had my gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago due to excessive stones.

How much money will you lose on the airfare? You'll have to compare that against going on vacation and possibly being miserable and in pain the whole time.

I had gall stones and had my gall bladder remove. The majorthing I recommend is watch your diet, no greasey or fatty food. Food of that sort causes the stones to block the duct into your gall baldder and cause the attack, not much fun I had 4 of them before they found the stones. I've been to WDW with a cold but the Florida heat really cleared that up quick.

Well, it wasn't quite that serious, but I was having kidney problems on our trip in March of last year. It hurt so bad that I basically had to keep my back and sides in one position, whether I was walking or sitting. I drank the mess out of some water and by the 2nd day the pain was gone. The only other time any of us got sick was on our December trip of 2010. Our daughter got sick, we think from the sudden intake of all of that greasy food. It was so bad that we left for home a day or two early. It sucked because we still had the ticket time left but a kid's health is always more important.

If you want to postpone until you can enjoy it more, I think you should. Disney sucks a lot out of even healthy people.

If you do go, stay somewhere that has a kitchen so you can eat healthy food. You don't want to make yourself sicker eating greasy and high-fat food at Disney, nor do you want to spend much of your vacation eating side salads (bring your own dressing!), grapes and mixed fruit (mostly melons) all the time.

If you do want to do a salad in the parks, I've found that freezing my dressing and taking it with me works well for me. Hasn't made me sick yet. :)

Wouldn't you only have to freeze any type of dressing that contained dairy product...(anything creamy)

Does oil and vinegar even freeze?

My dressing kinda freezes. :) it's not total liquid, but it's not like ice, either. It's like soft ice. :)

I'm never sure if I need to freeze it, but I do. And it is never hot when I pour it on my lettuce. :)

Thank you all for the responses! I'm glad some of you went through similar things as me.

I just had my gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago due to excessive stones.

They gave me tons of guidelines for foods such as no red meats, low fat, no greasy foods, avoid dairy, etc. And then the pictures of the limited edition treats got posted yesterday for the 24 hour event. It is going to take a lot to convince myself not to get that eye scream sundae.

I've changed my diet the past 2 days and so far so good. The pain is still there after I eat but not nearly as bad as it was before. They said my gallbladder isn't inflamed right now so I should be fine for the duration of the trip. I've just never had anything like this happen the most I have had is asthma.

Last night I did relay for Life and walked for about 4 hours, had rice a roll, and salad for dinner and I was okay doing that. I crashed when I got home though and my hip was hurting. I'm going to be like a 90 year old in disney and I'm only in my 20s! lol:p

Maybe I missed it but did you purchase the travel insurance? If so I would definitely postpone. Insurance covers airfare as well which is why we always purchase it. If you didn't and you are very confident in your doctor's guidelines being able to manage the issue then go by all means but if there is any doubt in your mind then I personally would cancel. I dread the thought of being treated by a doctor who I didn't know in a strange place. If you go be sure to take medical records with you just in case. Sorry you are in this position and hope you feel better soon!

If you're able to go w/o being in so much pain, then I'd go. it wouldn't be worth it though if you couldn't enjoy it and had to stay in hotel room all day or God forbid go to the hospital.:(
