Hello everyone! I have recently had knee surgery and don't want to cancel my trip to the best place on earth. I was wondering if anyone knew how accomidating Disney World was to individuals who need wheelchairs for getting around the parks because of situations such as mine. Or if anyone could share some stories of thier times in Disney when they needed some extra help.

Thank you!

GO to Guests Services if you need a wheel chair and such. All attractions and shows are wheel chair accesable so u wont have any trouble. You may want to watch out for some rides such as Space Mountain.. The sitting space is kinda cramp so you might want to be careful.. Have a great trip!

I found this out this last weekend while I was there if you let them know when you check in that you need a wheel chair they will have a manual one there for you in the morning so you will not have to walk to the bus stop to the entrance to the park because some of those walk are a hike and my mom had trouble walking them epcot bus stop to entrance for example is very long
that is if you are staying on disney property they also said that they would be able to call ahead and have a motorized wheelchair sent to the hotel

That is really great to know. My mother would need a wheel chair when she goes with us and I think the parking lot hike would do her in. Thanks tiggerlover1971

We're traveling to Disney with my MIL in November and I was able to rent a motorized scooter from an outside company to use while we're there. Disney reservations provided me with the numbers to the companies that rent them - the one we're using will deliver it to our hotel, pick it up when we leave and it's actually $10 cheaper per day than renting it through Disney at the parks.

Hope this helps!

Actually, I experienced just that scenario--through my sister that is.

My sister had an operation on her lower leg about a two weeks before we left for our vacation. She was confined to crutches until the trip and during the trip, instead of the crutches, we rented a wheelchair for her to use in addition to the crutches.

Let me say, Disney is very considerate when it comes to wheelchairs. We stayed at a Disney resort, and upon check-in a manual wheelchair was brought to the counter with a lock. It was free if we brought it back with the lock at the end of our trip.

On a lot of rides, there is a wheel chair entrance, usually at the back. It cuts down on wait times, in fact, on many occasions, which we all enjoyed. All CM's are willing to help out. In my sister's case, she was able to transfer with the aid of her crutches. If this is the same with you, than most rides shouldn't be a problem. Another point I should point out is that she did not have a brace or cast of anykind, just a bandage, which made things easier. Knee surgery might be different, which could prevent you from experiencing some thrill rides. But in most cases, everything worked out fine--the wheelchair was there waiting for us (along with the crutches) when we got off the rides.

There is also handicap viewing for parades and nighttime shows that I would take advantage of. The Illuminations viewing at Showcase plaza is very nice. Also, at Fantasmic, you get a good view, and you're toward the top which makes for easy exiting.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask! If I don't respond here, just PM me. Hope I helped!
