Finally saw the preview for this one--- and can I just say it looks charming! First of all, I have always thought that Josh Lucas guy was talented but has never had a big enough role-- plus, I just love underdog stories-- always such feel goods!

I'm the only one who saw the previews for this?
Apparently

Actually I just saw a preview for the first time a few days ago, maybe on the Disney Channel. It looked pretty good, I'll have to see it again because I don't remember much of it. Disney usually does a pretty good job with these sports movies. I like underdog stories too, Rudy is one of my favorites.

Oh Rudy-- what a GREAT film. It's been years since I've seen it, but still could call it a very enjoyable film. Films like these are just so touching.

Here's the website for the film if you wanted to watch the trailer again..

My father tells me he remembers when this actually happened and it was so incredible. Anyone here alive when that happened and remember?

I have seen this twice at the theater. I think it looks incredible. I love these sports movies where the little man defies the odds. This film reminded me of "Remember the Titans".

Do you mean you saw the preview at the theater?? Cuz it isn't out yet! I can;t wait to see it though-- I agree about Remember The Titans-- which was also a really great film.

Anyone go to that sneak preview Nemo Rocks was talking about?

I went. It was a fantastic movie....easily the best basketball movie around....lots of good laughs and everyone was cheering for the team throughout the film (audience reaction was very good). I'd give it an A-.

I dunno.. looks so formulated to me..

A coach nobody wanted.. a team no one beleived in.. then they win!

I bet there's some sassy girl, racial tension, and atleast 1 firebomb.

But it can't be "formulated" if it really is based on a true story-- actual events that happened in history.

NemoRocks- so glad to hear a great review! The audience reaction sounds amazing. I read somewhere that Lucas really does a great job- did you think so?

How much actually happened and how much was fabricated by hollywood though?

A documentary is moreso real life but 'based on a true story' means hollywood made most of it up - like that film about the couple stranded in the middle of the ocean.

Well this definitely was an event that happened in history-- my grandfather actually told me about this before the film was even made because it was a really big deal in the history of sports. The players suffered through a lot because of the color of their skin, yet they overcame the odds anyway. Even though basketball is now a primarily African American sport-- what happened then was not the norm-- and that, I like.

Definitely does....great performance.

Oh great-- I am really happy for him. I always think he is a stellar actor who is often overlooked. Think this could maybe be his breakthrough role then? I would like for him to get some attention-- I think he's good, really good...

If it somehow reaches the levels of Remember the Titans, I really think it could be (Poseidon in May will definitely help as well).

Yes sorry, I meant I've seen the trailer twice in the theater. But I'm glad I'm hearing such good reviews I cant wait to see it. No offense to anyone, but I don't like when people say movies about breaking racial tensions are "formulated". If it's based off facts, and hollywood puts a little bit of their spin on it I don't see what's wrong with it. Be it a football or basketball movie, if it's shows the stupidity of racisim, I think it might have to be told.

That's like saying movies about how a jewish person escaped the Nazis is formulated and told a hundered times. I think with the lack of attention to history today, these stories need to be told. Repeated storyline or not.

Whoops, sorry about that. Um, anyway, can't wait to see this film.:o

Great point-- that's exactly how I feel. Plus, there is obviously a reason they keep being made-- people like them! People enjoy watching these types of films, including me!

I saw it, I saw it! I really enjoed it-- it was just as I expected it to be. Touching and motivating-- moments of tears and moments of pride. A really nice mix -- oh and Lucas did a very wonderful job- he definitely confirmed my ideas that he is a real talent. anyone else get to see it this weekend?
