Getting Married in Florida

 everyone,

My Fiancee and I are thinking about getting married out in Florida during our two week vacation. We are spending one week in Orlando and seeing Mickey, and the second week in Port Charlotte.

I wondered if anyone has got married in the Orlando area or in Disney. We are looking at small budget. :brick: We are trying to find a romantic venue, with a supply of silk flowers and marriage certificates taken care of, and obviously someone to officiate.

I would like to know the process of getting married in the State of Florida, for example of preparation before the ceremony and after.

We are from England and thought it would be romantic to getting married in a Florida

Any opinions would be fantastic! :sohappy:

Hi,
My husband and I were married in Disney in May '02. We had the "intimate" wedding which means no more than 8 people in attendance. It was fabulous, they took care of everything. All we had to do was show up!! We called up Disney and set a date/time and place (for us it was Sunset Pointe at the Poly) The CM's over the phone are so helpful and patient. A few days later I received a packet in the mail so I could choose my cake flavors, flowers and arrangements, music, limo and numbers to people that are allowed into Disney to officiate the wedding. They also gave me names and numbers of photographers (not included in the package) We arrived in Orlando a few days early and got our marriage certificate, you have to do that yourself. It's really easy though, they give you directions to the court house, and no blood tests involved. You also get a wedding consultant that takes care of things for you. The entire thing (wedding, cake, flowers, limo, music, coordinator, 5 nights at the YC was less than $4500. That was however in 2002. Check out Disney weddings on the Disney sight. It was the most beautiful wedding. Our 8 guests still talk about it and how perfect it was. I highly recommend it!!!!
Good luck:wave:

I am going to do a bit of investigating into sunset pointe.

Is there anyone else out there that has got married but not in disney, as this is a option to us too.

Thanks

My Brother-in-law was married at the Lakefront Gazebo in Kissimmee, FL in May 2005. Family members decorated the gazebo, and they found an officiant on-line. The whole thing was planned without a visit to FL. It went really well.
You actually rent the Gazebo from the town of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Dept.

You could also try http://www.congratulationsnowandforever.com/

You have to get your marriage license before the ceremony, and that can be done at the clerk of court in downtown Orlando. They did it the day before the wedding.

My wife and I got married at the Royal Plaza on Hotel Plaza Blvd. In our particular case a friend of mine was a notary so she did the ceremony. We simply had it in the courtyard of the hotel. We were all staying there so they did not charge us a dime. This is however is frowned upon at Disney resorts and in many cases not allowed without going through the Weddings department. In the case of the Royal Plaza we simply spoke to the manager beforehand and he approved it.

If you google Orlando weddings you will come across a number of notaries that can perform the ceremony and know a variety of great and low cost locations ranging from your resort to art galleries, parks etc.

If I am not mistaken I contacted this person in the initial planning stages and he was very kind and had a bunch of ideas.

Our wedding including 5 rooms at the Royal Plaza for 1 night and dinner for about 20 at RFC was around $1000.

I didn't get married in FL, but I did just get married in the US last summer. I think (at least in our state,) that you have to personally go get the marriage license. Actually, for us, we had to go into the court house, fill out the information in person (and maybe answer a couple of easy questions?) and then the license was ready a couple of days later and we had my in laws go pick it up for us. The license was good for like 30 days or something, so that meant we had to get married in that timeframe or the license expired and we'd have to go get another.

Of course, in Vegas every day people just randomly get married spur-of-the-moment so maybe it varies from city to city, state to state. Just trying to help!! :)

wedding

we did it all on a shoe string budget

we went to kissimee and got our licence i think it was about 60 bucks
then we went along the road on 192 to the little white chappel and booked the wedding this was about 60-70 bucks
we arranged a wedding car from the limos in the florida area this cost us,$200 dollars for 3 hours hire.
we booked with our dvc points to stay at the contemporary and i called in advance to tell them we were going to get married. when we got to our room they had put ballons and wine complenets of disney for us.
we set of to the church and had a great time.
and we had dinner over looking the magic kingdom for the 2 of us on our wedding night.

total price for us $600 dollars and the dvc points we used.
this also included both of our outfits.

disney was not very nice to us as we did want to try and get a main street picture but they refused us because they had not made big bucks out of us and said it was due to people thinking we were cast members

but we did not let it spoil our day
if you need any more help drop us a line and we will try and help you.

It sounds lovely!

I was trying to remember what that chapel was called on the 192 the other day.

Thanks for the information!

We did a Disney intimate wedding back in 2001 at Sunset Pointe...very nice....we stayed at the grand floridian(balcony w/castle view) for 4 days, had the ceremony and did a 3 day cruise for about $5200.

There are services that allow you to apply for a marriage license via the mail ahead of time but that is going to run you a minimum of $200.....the drive into Orlando for the license was not that bad...waiting to get the license took about 90 minutes...but alot of people were getting married that day right there in the office.....lots of chaos.
