Getting a rental car while at Universal Resort?

I'm flying into MCO and planning a split trip between WDW and Universal. I will be using Magical Express on one end of the trip (can't decide whether to begin or end at Universal).

Anyway, I will need a rental car for the Universal portion. Universal reservations told me there is a Hertz on property but I've found them to be pricey. Are there other companies (Alamo, Naional, etc) nearby Universal's Hotels. Maybe even a free shuttle service?

The Avis at the Double Tree isn't very good. They only have one person working, which means if you have an early morning pickup time, you'll be waiting with about 2-3 other people who are also picking up their cars that morning. When it came time to get my reservation for a medium sized vehicle (4-door) I was told all they had left were pickup trucks. I raised hell. Needless to say, I was able to get a 4-door but had to wait for one to be delivered from another Avis, which put me off schedule by almost an hour and a half. Plus, the hours are terrible at the store. I was told I could drop the vehicle off by 4pm on Sunday, only to arrive at 3:15pm and find out they had been closed since 2pm. I didn't have to pay any extra, but it was still a pain to return it the next day.

Don't use that Avis!
