Country fans will be interested to know that George Jones' funeral will be broadcast, on TV and internet video as well as the earlier-announced radio, live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time (10 a.m. Central).

It will be on GAC-TV, as well as RFD-TV and www.opry.com, live. FamilyNet will show it later at 2:00 on delay. Audio will also be on WSM Radio (www.wsmonline.com) and Sirius' Willie's Roadhouse station. I thought I would put this out there in case people want to DVR it or listen at work. George was entertaining audiences for over 50 years, and influenced many artists, some of which will sing or give eulogy at his funeral. Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash opened at one time for HIM.

Anyhow, thought I would let everyone know. Check it out and learn a little about country music and its family of artists. It is expected to last about two hours.

Here is the press release from GAC's website:

And from RFD-TV:

FamilyNet will carry a delayed feed of the broadcast, beginning at 2:00 p.m. after Market Day Report.
According to the Associated Press and a statement pulled from the George Jones official online web site:

"The Voice" of Country Music fell silent last Friday, at the age of 81. Long recognized as country music's most indescribable voice by not only the fans, but critics in all genres, the music world continues to mourn the loss of its' finest stylist, who was considered the greatest living country singer.
A member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1956, George Jones achieved perhaps his greatest personal honor when he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Grand Ole Opry trust fund. More details can be found at: www.georgejones.com.
"George Jones touched upon the lives of our viewers like few artists can. He's both a music legend and a symbol of the style of country music that has always been true to the heart of rural America, "stated Patrick Gottsch, Founder of Rural Media Group. "George has visited our Nashville studios many times, performed with many of our programmers and been a dear friend to RFD-TV and our viewers. This is the least we could do to honor his life."[/QUOTE]

CMT has been added to the list of channels carrying it live, and that means more households, and in HD also.

Very nice that these country outlets are coming together and dropping their competition tomorrow to honor one of the men who helped build the building that they play in.

Did anyone happen to see the funeral today? That was a wonderful tribute.

A lot of it was very emotional to me, but two moments really made me cry: When Vince Gill cried singing "Go Rest High on That Mountain" with Patty Loveless, and when Alan Jackson ended by singing "He Stopped Loving Her Today" to Nancy Jones, and even tipped his hat to her.

I also liked The Oak Ridge Boys' rendition of "Farther Along," and I liked the eulogy given by George Jones' pastor. He was straightforward and honest.

I believe several networks will be re-running it tonight or later. If you are a country fan, or grew up with George Jones, it is meaningful a great tribute to the man, faith, and redemption.
