The US does not have pre-paid data plans, and nothing available through any provider without a minimum 2-year contract.

T-mobile offers wifi access if you have built-in wifi on your laptop. It can be purchased by the day, month, year, etc...but it requires a t-mobile specific wifi connection. ATT offers similar plans at their hotspots.

Your only real choice if you have built-in wifi is to go to a local wifi hotspot and connect there. In Orlando, you can find the list here:

In general, the locations are similar to those in the UK: major bookstores, Starbucks, hotels, airports. In addition, most McDonalds and Panera Bread locations have wifi hotspots. Do a google search of the address of your hotel off-site, and see what other business are located around there.

Most likely, there is nothing you will be able to do from your actual hotel room. You might want to check if the location you are staying has internet in their lobby -- sometimes hotels have that available in the lobby, even when there is no access anywhere else in the complex.

I have seen "pay as you go" cell phones but I have never had a reason to look for a broadband card, we have one thru Sprint (the same one we have our cell phones thru). We have mega stores here called "Best Buy" or "Fry's" maybe look on the Internet and see what they have to offer. I know Best Buy sells Virgin mobile phones on a pay as you go service and so does AT&T, maybe look them up too. Good Luck and have a great time when you are here!

There is NO WAY I could go one month without the Internet. I hope you can work out the problems and find a solution. The WIFI spots are a good choice too, Panara Bread is a good place for lunch (yummy soup and sandwhiches) so maybe that is a good solution as well. If you could "check in" on the world every third day or so, that wouldn't be too bad.
