Gaylord Palms - Anyone stay there?

I tried searching past threads and allears.net for any reviews of Gaylord Palms, but I couldn't find any. Has anyone stayed at that resort and would they recommend it?

Gaylord Palms

We stayed there in October. My husband got a great rate of $99/night as he booked it online that day. The room was FANTASTIC and overlooked the inner covered courtyard where we watched a wedding from our little balcony. It was a little bit of a hike to get to the room from the lobby, and the pool was ok. We also preferred not to eat there at the various (3 or 4) restaurants, as they seemed VERY overpriced for our budget. I highly recommend it, very clean, new, quiet, and overall seemed geared to adults (probably due to the attached convention center). We never did find the self parking and ended up valeting every time (another unexpected, but fun expense). Hope this helps!

Do NOT valet there - over 45mins to get my car back and that's after the 15mins they said it would take in my room.

They charge a crazy fee for valet and then can't get your car back to you, followed by the valet going "What about my tip?" and my response "Get my car to me in under 45mins!"

Grr!

Anyway, otherwise it's a nice and well themed resort with lots of neat things to explore. The rooms can be a little noisy (they dont seem as well sound proofed as some places) but i think it really depends on how noisy your neighbors are. It's not my first choice, but i'm glad to have experienced it, and might return if the rate is good.

Oh, and for some reason their water tastes really funky in compared to some FL water - it even makes their soft drinks yuckey.

Have not stayed at the hotel but have been there a couple of times for the Ice Show around the holidays. It's striking. Similar in scope to the Opryland hotel in Nashville (sister operation). It's fun to walk through, if nothing else!

The lower level of the swamp-ished theme section (under the boardwalk which is for the second or third floor) actually has mist/fog effects and neat lighting, so at night it's really cool to wander around.

I never really explored the Key West section but i hear the restaurant is awesome. The fort (which is sort of the hub of the building) even has animals in it in displays. The resort overall was worth touring like an exhibit or small theme park.
