Just wanted to report our experience with adding a day of park tickets to our package during last week's trip, in case anyone else needs to do the same. It seems that the recent price increase has thrown a little wrench into the system for upgrading park tickets during your stay.
First of all, if you purchased your tickets prior to the price increase and plan on adding a day during your stay, I recommend you go to guest services rather than trying to do it at your resort concierge. We purchased our MYW package thru Disney well before the increase, and got a discount on both the tickets and resort (typically we use Undercover Tourist, but this deal thru Disney beat even their prices). 5-day park hoppers, which we wanted to upgrade to 6-day halfway thru the trip.
We knew what the price *should* have been for adding this day - about $40 total for the 4 of us give or take. But, when the CM at our resort desk tried to do it, the cost came up at $140...his explanation was that the recent price increase (and likely the fact that our original tickets were discounted) was causing us to have to pay the newer prices for the extra day.
I was doing the upgrade without my wife (the ultra planner) present, so I just paid it and figured we'd sort it out later. The CM at our resort told us to go by guest services and they'd probably be able to do something. That's what we did, and though it took some persistence on my wife's part, we were able to get the extra day for around $40. It still took my wife being politely persistent with the CM at guest services, as he at first just claimed that we'd have to pay the new rate, but it worked out in the end.
So, I guess the lesson is, if you purchased tickets before the increase, and need to upgrade, be persistent, and (politely) insist that you should be able to upgrade them using the rate at which you purchased them originally. But, at least according to the CM at guest services, resort desk CM's don't have the ability to modify your account like they do at GS. I suppose it's possible that we were just a weird exception, but I overheard other CM's at our resort desk saying that it had happened to other guests. Hope this helps!
