Future Fairy Tales

So, I was thinking about Disney's core animated films: fairy tales: and how Disney is still trying to keep with it. Then, I wondered, what new princess and/or fairy tale animated movies could Disney still make? I was thinking Princess and the Pea and Rumpelstiltskin. What else do you think? Discuss...

Scheherazade from 1001 Arabian Nights. Might be difficult, as you'd have to make it an anthology film, which Disney has not done in years, but I think it could work.

Thought of another one. Not a "fairy tale" per se, but I think the Wife of Bath's story from The Cantebury Tales would work really well. Much like Rapunzel, you'd have to temper and tone down the sexual elements of the story, but I think it'd be a good fit with the rest of the Disney canon, not the least of which is my pet theory that the old hag from the story is the same character as the Enchantress from Beauty & The Beast.

Wow, yeah. There's never been much of an attempt to film much of The Canterbury Tales. It could be fantastic too. Raunchy in places, but what a great idea. An animated PG version would be great...make it a musical (there was a Broadway rock version about 40 years ago.)

Not all the Canterbury Tales would work. Certainly not Chaucer's author insert pieces, and definitely not the unfinished pieces, like the Squire's Tale. I just picked the Wife of Bath's tale because it's a complete story in it's own right, it's got a good message that I think is important today (guys, don't be misogynistic jerks), and it's style does fit in with pieces like Beauty & the Beast.

I think "The Marvelous Land of Oz" would be another good choice. Disney desperately wants to make their own stamp on the Oz mythos, with two previous feature films trying to do just that, with less than desired results. An animated feature is probably the way to go, and third time's the charm, as it were.

Furthermore, there's been a push for an LGBT princess, and Tip/ Ozma seems like a no-brainer to fill that demand.

I'd be fine with an LGBT Princess, but I doubt that Disney would ever do anything more than a princess who is "complex" or has a hint/undertone of something other than straight. The backlash for an openly gay or bi Princess, let alone a trans one would have a crazy amount of backlash for the company. Conservatives would go nuts.

The fact that it's magic combined with the fact that it's a canonical part of Oz written by Baum himself over a hundred years ago should skirt most of the potential conservative gobbledygook.

No matter what they do, it'll most likely feature a beast of burden that acts like a dog.

There is not a doubt in my mind that the success of Maximus was the only reason we got Sven the Reindeer.

Oh, and they'd all have adjectives for names.

And the female leads would all look and act like Rapunzel.

In all seriousness, though, I kind of like the Musicians of Bremen idea.

So, no Disney version of the Miller's Tale? ;)

Besides all the faily tales we are families with there are probably plenty of stories that are specific to different cultures around the world that could be adapted.

While not a fairy tale at all I wouldn't mind the Kingdom Keepers being made into a movie.

How about expanding with Lewis Carol works with the Snark?

How about a full length Prince and the Pauper?

A modern fairytale they could use is The Two Princesses of Bamarre.
