Is there any particular department you were planning on applying into? Will you be going for a full time, part time, seasonal or CP role?

Well, typically the way that hiring at Disney works is that you're cast in a certain Line of Business (Entertainment, Transportation Operations/Attractions, Merchandise, Food and Beverage, etc.), and then a location (Port Orleans, Adventureland/Liberty Square, Oasis, Future World West, etc.). You can request a certain location, but it's very much subject to availability.

In the case of Haunted Mansion, that's Operations/Attractions in the Adventureland/Liberty Square (Ad/Lib) area. At one time, I was considering transferring into that area, and I spoke with one of the managers there. According to her, Ad/Lib Attractions hosts are not typically trained on Haunted Mansion until they've been in the area for at least 6 months, statused to another attraction during that time (with exceptions being made for CP's).

As for Monorails, that's in the Transportation line of business. I don't know an awful lot about that role, except that there is a significant amout of training that CM's go through at the various stations before they even start pilot training. From what I hear, it's a pretty demanding role.

In general, keep in mind that the Disney you visit and the Disney you work for are two very different things. Now, don't get me wrong, I love working for the Company and have had some amazing experiences, but it did take a little bit of adjustment at first. It didn't "kill the magic," like some on here are worried about, but it did give me a completely different perspective on WDW.

Now, do you have any prior experience working with the public? With the two roles that you mentioned, you'd need to be very comfortable addressing large numbers of people in a clear, professional manner. Also, with any role at WDW, you need to be comfortable with dealing with service situations where something has gone wrong, and the Guest is unhappy (ride downtimes, transportation delays, etc). Again, you'd need to be able to deal with those situations in a calm, professional manner.

I'd recommend taking a look at the various role descriptions posted at waltdisneyworld.jobs, to give you an idea of what all is involved with all the roles at WDW.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance. :)

According to the jobs website, there are a few full time positions open right now, but only in Housekeeping, 3rd shift custodial and Full-service Food and Beverage Steward.

I can tell you for a fact that it is not many positions.

yes a small number is comparision to the number of people unemployed, however the fact there is 16 avaliable in my old area alone still suggests its a number in the hundreds, and i have positive rehire, so i have a chance. :)

Never said you didn't. I thought you were going to do something with your teaching career and try to get a better paying job than Disney.

My plan is to go p/t till i graduate from school, then go seasonal and teach for a few years, and then apply to YES, and its alot easier to do with the foot in the door. Getting a teaching job is hard when you are on a temp cert and working to get the professional one because no child left behind puts means you are the last one considered when they hire a teaching role.

I promise you, it will not be as easy as you think. Nobody walks in here and says what they want... and then gets it. You can certainly try to start where you want and do a great job, and then keep trying to move and get there eventually... but there's no way it will be that easy.

Yup...its definitely not like it used to be, you were able to walk in to casting and if you had a pulse they would hire you. Now with the freeze it pretty much is a stroke of luck for you job seekers.

Thats def true i remember the days that casting would have the hiring banner out all the time. Been a while since i saw that. :(

A good rehire status and an interviewer that loves you helps so much, I already had experience in food and beverage, but last year I got to walk in and hand pick my role down to the area.

Sometimes you just get lucky!

I have heard how hard it is to become full time at disney right now. my question is once you are hired how to you start getting full time hours? Or in my case, seasonal. I plan on moving to the area soon and it would be nice to pick up some hours here and there.

What kind of hours are people getting right now? Are there any full time front line CMs or is everyone getting part time hours? I'm a little confused.:veryconfu

I've heard that if you're applying like normal, it's hard to even get seasonal for most roles. It all depends on what you're applying for.

When I left in August, they were only offering CPs who wanted to stay seasonal employment, they couldn't even get part time. I knew a couple of people who moved there permanently and stayed at CT costuming CMs. As seasonal and PT, you can only get scheduled 24 hours a week, but one of the guys I knew picked up shifts and could usually get 30-40 hours a week on his seasonal employment. For costuming, I know the wait list to go full time is very long, and I know people who have been there for months who are still part time (even someone who was a coordinator).

But yeah, it's pretty tough right now, it's getting better, but still very hard.
