Hey Guys,

Been a reader here for the past couple years, I think this is my first post, not sure. Anyway here's the situation:

My family (2A, 2C), my sisters family (1 maybe 2A, 2C), and my parents (2A) are all going to Walt Disney World this December (9 maybe 10 people total). Checking in on 12/3 and out on 12/12. My sister has been going for years, and has always driven, she sent my family last year and we drove. This trip we are planning on driving again, but we would really like to rent a big passenger van and all ride together. We are planning on driving straight thru and just swapping out drivers (about 850 miles).

The big problem is that I am having a hard time finding a rental company that will accommodate us.

-In a perfect world I'd like to pick up a van locally, drive it to Orlando, drop it off while we live in the park for 9 days, then pick up another van when it's time to leave and drop it off back home.

- I think we are going to have to rent the van locally and have it sit in the parking lot at Disney until its time to go back home, keeping the clock ticking on our rental the whole time, even though we aren't using it. So far Enterprise has said that they can do it, but it will cost us $1400. That seems high to me.

So does anybody have experience renting these large passenger vans, to drive down to Disney? One-way rental experience would be great to hear about. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE reconsider those big commuter vans as they are soooo very dangerous! The models that they use are not made for people they are made for cargo; they are top heavy and tend to roll/crash very easily. There have been two accidents locally involving them (one 8 people died). 10 people plus luggage will overload it and make it even worse.

I have an 8 passenger van and once loaded with luggage it becomes hard to control at high speeds on the highway, there has to be a better way.

We rented a 15 passenger van for a trip to FL from NJ, it was a bunch of us from church heading down. We had no issues at all, the 2 times my husband and I went on the trip. We swapped drivers every couple of hours so no one was sleepy and trying to drive.

Do you remember what company you guys used? Or a rough number on the price? I can't seem to find many rental companies with those vans in my area. Not even around Norfolk International Airport.

At $1400 this is an extra cost that doesn't gain us much. We do get the added security of a newer model vehicle which I would assume they would replace for us if it broke down. We also get the added benifit of the one driver being able to swap half way thru. Oddly enough out of 9 or 10 people only 2 of us are confident enough to drive on the interstate.
