Full/Part/Seasonal Differences

Hey all,
I am going to apply to work at Disney(WDW) in a couple of months, but have some questions that I know you guys can answer. I did a search in this forum already and couldn't find any direct answers, but if this has been answered before, let me know where!

Could you tell me the differences between full-time, part-time, and seasonal CMs in the following areas:
1)number of hours
2)pay
3)benefits (from health to park passes)
4)flexibility

With number 4, I mean flexibility in the hours you work. Do you have any say, some say, or no say in which hours you work?

and anything else you can tell me would be great too!

Thanks! :)

Full Time

1- 32 hours minimum.
2- pay depends on the role
3- benefits include dental, medical, vision, park admission for yourself and others, and discounts
4- flexibility is almost nonexistant. You have sold your sould to the mouse.

Part Time
1- no more than 24.9 hours during non peak seasons... as many hours as you can get during peak season (this is their guidelines.. but the rules have been bent in the past
2- pay depends on the role
3- benefits include park admission for yourself and others, as well as discounts
4- you give disney 2 full days of availability... any 2 days. Hows that for flexible

Seasonal
1- no more than 24.9 hours during non peak seasons... as many hours as you can get during peak season (this is their guidelines.. but the rules have been bent in the past
2- pay depends on the role
3- park admission for yourself, comp passes, and discounts. You can get others in after having worked 200 hours.
4- 14 full days of availability per year... minimum.

Thanks mkt, that was real helpful. I have a couple other questions if you dont mind.

Can you switch from part time to seasonal or vice versa easily? I am finishing up at UCF, and during the summer I could easily work part time, but when Fall begins I dont think I could give them 2 full days every week. Would they let me switch back next summer or would that be too difficult?

When exactly are peak and non peak times? I figure the holidays and summer are peak, what other times?

Also, as far as park passes, what are the rules on the number you get a year, how many people, etc? I've heard different numbers, and I guess it would depend on your part/full/seasonal status. and what happens in regards to this if you switch in the way I asked above?

part time/full time to seasonal isn't that hard... just ask a manager and do the appropriate paperwork. Seasonal/part time to full time and seasonal/full time to part time is... you would actually have to go through casting and transfer to that position within your department.

peak= Summer, Holidays, Spring Break... I'm not 100% sure on that one, but that's what I'm guessing. It actually can vary by work location.

If you're full time or part time, after 90 days, you get a maingate pass, which allows you to admit 3 people (and yourself) 12 times a year. You get unlimited admission with your cast ID.

If you're seasonal, you get unlimited free admission for yourself, and a limited use maingate after working 200 hours (3 people, 6 times in a year).

The number of free maingate admits can go up if you have more than 3 dependants. You also get free comp passes in the summer and in the winter, as well as a set of holiday comps for the cast holiday celebration.

heh... I know GR has that same problem. The areas represented by the Union, the minimum is 32... everyone else is 30. I thought front desk was union though

It is, but according to the local union rep that's been one for about 10 years, with Disney nearly 20, it's only 30.

I'm seasonal right now, and the cast service manager in entertainment told me I only needed one shift per year. I've worked about 4 days this year, and just a few days ago I received a maingate in the mail...and I certainly haven't worked 200 hours

Just out of curiosity, how flexible are they with your training hours? I heard at one time that for training you had to give them at least 2 full weeks of full availability so they could complete your training before you could go to seasonal status. I would love to work as a seasonal CM ideally in attractions (although I'm sure I'd take whatever I could get). I would like to work on my days off from school and my other job (probably at least once or twice a week evey week - more often during summer and off periods from school). However I just dont have 2 weeks of full availability for training if this truly is a requirement. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Speaking of seasonal employment. I plan to retire in a couple of years. I live in West. Pa. I plan to be a snowbird and spend my winters at WDW. I am thinking about being a seasonal employee during Jan., Feb., and March. My question to the group is this.

Can I get a CM discount on a room during the winter months that I am there? Can this discount be for about 90 days? I was thinking of staying at Pop Century or similiar for the winter.

I realize that my Disney paycheck would not be enough to cover my winter exodus, but I am just looking for ways to supplement my stay. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello! Can anyone update this info? I'm interested most in the current differences between Seasonal & P/T.....Also, is it possible to transfer from Seasonal to P/T after a year?
Thanks!
