FSFB vs. Hospitality

Alrighty so I was just accepted to the program a few days ago and I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I make this huge commitment and I hope I can clear things up with a few answers to these questions:

So I was accepted for Full Service Food and Beverage for Spring Advantage 2012 and I heard this was a very selective role. However, I really had my heart set on hospitality (particularly Front Desk). So my questions are....

1. Is it possible to be switched to a different role?
2. Should I call the recruiting office? (or should I happy with what I have?)
3. What restaurants are available to work in for FSFB?
4. Do you rotate between restaurants in FSFB?
5. What are the hours like for FSFB/Hospitality?
6. Ultimately, which role is 'better'?

At the end of the day, I am just trying to get the most out of this experience as I possibly can.
Thank you to everyone who posts on this thread, I really appreciate any information you can offer me about these two roles. :-)

I'm a CP alumni (Hospitality-Spring 2010) and a current Campus Rep so let me see if I can answer your questions for you. =)

1. It is VERY, VERY unlikely that you'll be able to switch your role at this point, especially seeing as hospitality is one of the more selective roles on the program (vs. merchandise, attractions, etc.). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The only way I can see you getting hospitality is that if you choose to extend your program (ie Spring to Spring Advantage) you can apply for a transfer for the summer session. If your super good they may be able to cross-train you but that is VERY unlikely as CPs usually don't get cross-trained outside their department.

2. There is no harm in calling the recruiting office and asking but as I said it is highly unlikely that it will change. If they say they won't change it though, don't let it ruin your experience. FSFB is a GREAT role and you're going to have an amazing experience either way.

3. For the most part, all the restaurants in the resorts and parks are open to FSFB except those that are not owned by Disney. For example the Rain Forest Cafe, Portobellos, Fulton's Crab House, Wolfgang Puck's, etc. Some FSFB do have some restrictions such as the countries in Epcot. You can only work in that country if you're an ICP from that country. Also, the restaurants at DAKL are only staffed by ICPs from Africa (along with full time CMs). The only restaurant I'm not sure that has CPs is Victoria and Alberts. Not saying they don't but I'm not sure they do.

4. You won't rotate between restaurants while you're on your program. You may be able to be cross-trained but again, it is unlikely.

5. It all depends on where you work. If you're working a restaurant like Chef Mickey's the starts breakfast very early, you could have very early morning shifts. Likewise if you're working somewhere like Cali Grille that is often open late you may be there very late. Hospitality CPs normally work more at night so I worked a lot of 3P-11:30P and 6:15P-2:15A shifts. I also worked in the mornings and my training began at 5:45 every morning. It all depends on your work location so there aren't really set hours and that's not just for FSFB and Hospitality, it's for all locations.

6. Neither is better or worse than the other. I know that's not the answer you wanted but it's true. The College Program is all about what you make of it. If you choose to love the location you're in and the work you're doing, you're going to have an amazing experience. You can also choose to hate where you are and let it ruin your time there. The work is different but the ultimate goal is the same, to give someone a magical moment, a magical vacation. If you choose to do that no matter where you are you'll have a very fulfilling experience.

Hope that helped you a little. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know. =)

Thank you!

Thank you very much for all your answers and I plan on taking your advice. I literally just accepted my role as FSFB Spring Advantage 2012! Hopefully I can shine down there and possibly be cross trained or apply for hospitality in the summer if I think that is something I will enjoy more after working there after a while. Thank you again :-)
