Fridge and Microwave

We are heading down to WDW next weekend for 10 days, and staying at Pop Century. Has anyone ever taken their own microwave and mini-fridge? I have my old ones from my college days in the dorms, and $10/day to rent a microwave for the room seems steep. Just wondering if taking your own is allowed or not...

From what I remember, the food court has a couple of microwaves for you to use free of charge. As for the fridge, it may be cheaper for you to bring your own if it is within your budget, especially if you are staying for more than a week. You are allowed to bring your own, yes.

From another post on WDWMagic, someone said that Microwaves were not allowed because they would be considered a fire hazzard. I really don't know, myself; I am just repeating what someone else posted on here a few months ago. If I were you, I'd call Disney directly and ask if you can bring a microwave.

As for the fridge, I'd definitely bring it. They offer them for rent, so I don't see where bringing yours would be a problem.

I have done housekeeping at the Coronado Springs.

I agree the fridges are definately a fire hazard but no one checks for them. If you are willing to possibly jeopardize your well-being then i would say bring the microwave. I think part of the magic of staying on Disney property is buying the food and not having to make your own. Just my opinion though.

For the fridge, simply call the resort and tell them you need a fridge in your room for medical purposes, they will lend it to you free of charge and of course the housekeepers dont check these either. So no need to bring your fridge.

Just a little hint :animwink: Hope this helps.

Please don't cook in your room. As others have stated Pop Century has a microwave in the food court. The rooms simply are not equipped for cooking. There is no proper ventillation for fumes, etc...

Here is the official response from Disney regarding cooking in a hotel room:

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort.

We are pleased to learn that you and your family are planning to visit our Vacation Kingdom. Cooking items and appliances such as you describe are not permitted in Disney Resort rooms. Guests violating this policy (and Florida Fire Code statutes) will get a visit from Resort Security.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us. Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number if applicable on all correspondence.

Thank you! Sincerely, Betsy Mayer

Thanks for the responses. I guess EpcotFan checked for the official word. We'll leave the microwave at home and use the one in the food court then. Although it seems strange that they call it a fire hazard, according to Florida regulations; I have stayed in several hotels that have microwaves, and I'm wondering if a microwave is a hazard, then why not a coffee pot or iron? Oh, well, it's not anything I'm too upset over! We'll enjoy this trip anyway!

Jseven is correct regarding the "Rent free" fridges for medical purposes. The resorts will lend you a fridge free of charge for any medical need.

Dear Wife and I occasionally suffer from heel spurs and pounding the parks 8-16 hours a day can tend to aggravate that condition.:(

We carry an ice pack that needs to be kept frozen for relief and the Disney team are always willing to provide us with a fridge. We stick it in the freezer section of the fridge in a plastic storage bag.

No use wasting all that fridge space, so we use it to keep those Diet Mountain Dews we have to buy before we get to Disney property cold! :slurp:
