Freebies

Do you think if DCL stopped the freebies, prices would be affected?

  • Yes, they could save the money on pamphlets and the like and pass on the savings.

Hey Everyone!! This poll could also count for DVC as well. Do you guys think with all the stuff DCL prints, (pamhlets, guides) free magnets, free pins, lanyards, etc, if they stopped, would that be a big enough savings to pass on to the masses?

Um. . . who's getting free pins????

(Now that I think about it, we used to get Castaway Club trading pins, but I don't think we've gotten those in several years.)

We have always said that there are a bit too many DVC stations around. I get they want to recruit people but there seems to be an abundance of them.

No, since a loss to a corporation is not making as much as the year before, not being in the negative. Therefore, if they lowered their prices they still cannot fit more people on already sold out ships. This would have a slight inverse affect on profits due to "cheaper" vacation packages (pending they don't increase other costs). This is mind-bogglingly a disservice to stakeholders because god forbid we had profits that were still significant but not AS significant as the year before, regardless of the higher profits more affordable packages might bring you from year round sell outs in the future.

I think "free" is an illusion. For instance, just because you can go up and get a cup of Coke at the drink station instead of ordering at a bar or in a special cup purchased at the beginning of the cruise like on other lines doesn't mean DCL is giving anything away. The premium price paid for a Disney cruise does go along way as far as the unique experience, but the higher price also is going to pay for alot of those "freebies" as well. In high school I had a Economics teacher who drilled into us every day, "There is no free lunch" and the older I get the more I see she was right.

I've been on five cruises and I've only seen DVC giving out a lot of free stuff, not really the Cruiseline (unless you count the Castaway Club). DVC is a whole other department so I doubt them cutting down on their promotional stuff is going to lower the cost of the Disney cruise.

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing. This was not a button with a safety pin back. This is the type of pin you'd see on a lanyard with the Mickey head safety back thingy.

Interesting. So as someone with a bit of a DCL pin compulsion, and who will be on the Fantasy next month, I'm very curious as to where you're getting free pins. . .

When we got back to our stateroom, there was a box on the bed. Inside was a coupon to go to the DVC desk and get your Pirate Mickey Pin. BTW, I'm a DVC member and thats why we got it.

you kind of answered your own poll..

The 'freebies' you mention are mostly DVC related and then castaway club (repeat cruisers). These are basically marketing budgets. DVC freebies shouldn't even be used in the same discussion with everyone else.

There are however DCL freebies, lanyards, etc. The poll could be for either one. But if you say, its a marketing budget, that is a whole new game and therefore wouldn't affect doodly
