MANY people have signed a petition to free the Epcot Dolphins, I'm not going to voice my opinion I was just wondering what others thought.

I guess if they'd want to stop having dolphins, that'd be fine...they've already butchered that pavilion to death anyway...and there's more than enough other types of sea life to look at. My only thought though, is that at least the tank is HUGE and they aren't being made to do tricks and shows all day long. I've been to Seaworld Orlando at least once, and I recall the fins on the dolphins there being kinda beat up and scraped from the tanks. At Epcot, this wasn't the case...they pretty much looked very well cared for and free to do about whatever...

NO...it's not the ocean. And I've seen Blackfish...and I understand the argument. And with Orcas, I totally think its a bad idea. With dolphins...eh...it's somewhat different. EPCOT's dolphins are just in an entirely different situation from what I can see...and I'm sure Disney is extra vigilant given all the heck that Seaworld has been getting...

They are In the upstairs part of the aquarium when you exit the nemo ride.

Wait, there's more to do after the ride?! ... Just kidding.

My opinion: keeping a small number of animals captive for the purpose of scientific research and the education of the public is important. I grew up near the SeaWorld in Ohio (Yes, for some reason they thought that was a good idea) and we visited frequently, often as school field trips. Getting that exposure to the wildlife and learning about them had a lot of impact on me, and I'm sure many of the other children there, much like at a zoo.

So assuming the folks at the Seas are scientifically monitoring the Dolphins, and educating guests about them, I see no problem with that.

I think it's worth pointing out that the dolphins in the Living Seas enjoy a much better quality of life than do any of the animals over at The Land.

Do you wanna build a hand-bag? Or fry up some tasty chunks of tail?

I suppose it has to do with the "cute" factor. Typical. People only want to save animals they can project emotions onto.

Case in point: One of these creatures is critically endangered, the other is not.

People work themselves into a frothing rage when a harp seal is killed, but those same people would probably shoot a California condor thinking it's got a disease. "There's this weird bird, and it's like got mange or something."

I know that people do feel that way, but, at least they are not going to be subject to being eaten by other free roaming animals. They are a part of the food chain. We think of that as concerning our own food, but, they are the food for other animals. When that isn't happening they are getting caught in tuna nets and drowning in all that freedom. If they are being treated humanly then there is no reason, in my mind, to be overly concerned. They are living the resort life for aquatic creatures and teaching humans about species of life that we otherwise do not generally have access too. A pretty noble occupation.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...if the people that speak out against captivity actually cared about the animal species, they'd join a more important fight in worldwide animal conservation. Why not join the fight against overfishing of certain species, such as sharks? Sharks are dying by the thousands every year and groups like PETA don't bat an eyelid because they're not cooped up in aquariums.

How many more threads like this are you going to post here? You do them about SeaWorld too, we know your activist standpoint. What do you get out of posting these useless threads?!

People like to project their opinion onto others, while ignoring any kind of logic that may be presented back to them. Message boards are the platform to do just that. It was happening with that one member who constantly posted links about the Orcas at Sea World and ignored any kind of reply that came their way. Not saying the OP will do that, but 9 times out of 10 any kind of activist will constantly pound their agenda into someones head.

They weren't even in there last September which made me wonder if they had died since they didn't look too happy on our trip before that one.
