I understand you need to book a vacation package of a certain length, with certain tickets, in order to qualify for free dining when the deal becomes available. My question is, can you purchase the hotel through Disney, and tickets through another vendor and still qualify?

Pretty sure if you want to book during the free dining you need to get the complete package, room, tickets & dining all from Disney.

Disney considers that a room only reservation (not a package) which doesn't qualify.

Direct tickets with at least a 4 day hopper & 4 nite resort stay.

They make it seem like you need 5nite/6days because of the way they prompt you on their site, but 4 & 4 still qualifies.

You have to book a resorts, tickets, and dining plan as a package to get the free dining plan package promotion.

An interesting thing I noticed when searching different Free Food dates and resorts is that availability is shown differently depending on how many guests (unrelated to room capacity).

My sister was possibly joining my family of 3, so i was looking at both 3 and 4 guest availability. Sometimes the system would not show a room when looking for 4 ppl that shows up when searching for 3 people. I was tempted to book a Free Food room for 3 ppl in a 'capacity 5" room and then later add 2 guests just so I could stick my tongue out
