Free Dining??

This will be the fourth year in a row that we have gotten the Free Dining in September promotion and I hope that I can keep booking for a few more years with Free Dining in September. My son goes into Kindergarten this September so it will depend on how he responds to being at school if we will be able to take him out of class for two or three weeks right after school has started for the year.

While this is good for us as consumers, it actually is a bad business practice for Disney to continue to offer free dining. They have now fostered among repeat visitors and first-time visitors who do research to hold out on a trip until they get the free dining offer, since now it is practically guranteed they offer it roughly around the same time every year). So while they do get more visitors during this "slow" time, these might be travelors who would have gone during the more expensive times of the year, so in effect they could potentially lose many. I've read post after post on here about people who wait until the free dining is offered. And while I'm sure these same people would visit without the free dining, it shows that Disney actually loses money (or rather, doesn't get the money they would have gotten from these people).

That said, bring it on! I was just there three weeks ago and I want to go back now!

I think we schedule more trips thanks to free dining. It doesn't just affect the timing of them.

I doubt if any of us know enough to judge what sorts of discounting practices are most profitable to Disney.

I agree. Disney has kind of created a vicious cycle by doing this three years in a row. Every one is now conditioned that free dining for September will come out in April so they wait until it comes out to book. This really throws a wrench into the way Disney does offers based on booking rates.

1 - I am very very sure that the Disney bean counters have done the math.

2 - You would be extremely surprised by how many repeat and first timers don't even know that Free Dining exists! Even those that supposedly do research.

3 - people like us, who frequent forums and other internet places, are a very small percentage of Disney's overall business.....
