Free dining upgrade?

Hi everyone!
We are going down to Disney for the week September 13-21! We were originally staying at Caribbean Beach but we are getting married in April 2017 so we were thinking of switching to Pop to save a little money for the honeymoon I know free dining hasn't come out yet and it's never guaranteed but we have our fingers crossed! If we stayed at pop and got the quick service dining plan could we pay the difference to upgrade to the regular dining plan?!

A word of warning and something that you would need to check. If you got free dining while staying at Pop you might find that you're paying the full price for the next tier of dining plan - not just the difference between the two. That was certainly the case for us last year (things might be different for you as we're from the UK)
We compared prices of staying at a Moderate resort with QS dining plan Vs a Deluxe resort with the standard DP. Armed with those prices we then checked the price of the same Moderate resort but opted for the standard DP and found that we we're being charged the full price for the standard DP and not the difference.

That must just be a UK thing and that sucks for y'all but anyone in the states I know that wanted to upgrade only for certain paid the difference between the 2. I personally have never used free dining Being we always did a room discount before we joined DVC but I am speaking from the ones that have done it here in the US.

You're right - I suppose the logic is that the FREE QS dining was free and if you wanted the standard dining you must pay for what you're actually getting. Either that or the travel companies were profiteering

I'm from the UK and booked for the 14th-28th this year. Didn't go direct to Disney, went to a travel agent and only paid a supplement to upgrade from QS to the TS dining plan. As it's been said, could be different in the US, but thankfully we didn't pay and arm and a leg!

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you booked your package before the most recent set of price increases and look to add room/dining/package discounts later, all of the discounts will be based on the new pricing. A couple of years ago we booked early for a October trip and went to add a room discount and it would have actually cost us more to add the discount.

Yup! I didn't even take a discount last year because I booked early and when the discount came out, the only thing I could get was actually more than what I was already paying, so no thanks!
