FP+ with both and offsite and onsite reservation

We are traveling to WDW this summer with my sister and her family. They will be staying offsite the week before we arrive and then we will all be staying together at AKV once we arrive. I have been able to customize bands for all of us for our AKV stay. How will FP+ work for her family while they are staying offsite before we arrive?

Once she purchases her tickets ahead of time, I will link them to the magic bands and make FP+ reservations ahead of time for all of us for the AKV stay. Will she be able to use her hard tickets for FP+ the day of at each park or will her magic band work even though we haven't checked into AKV?

I know at this time she will not be able to reserve FP+ ahead of time for the days she is staying off property.

Thank you for your help.

By summer, all parks should be allowing off-site guests to make FP+ reservations the day-of, using Magic Bands that have valid tickets linked to them.

For right now, they're only testing the off-site guest part at Animal Kingdom. But by the time your 60-day window opens, there will be much more information on how to handle your scenario.

I have a similar but different situation. My family of three went in Nov and have our Magic Bands from that trip. We are returning with our extended family in April but are staying off site. Will we be able to use our magic bands that still have days left on them with fp+? Also, how will the other family members use fp+, do they receive magic bands even though they are off site?

Your Bands from your past trip will still work for park admission, and you'd use them to "check in" for your FP+ times at the attractions. (You'll also still be able to use the Bands well into the future by simply adding new admission tickets to your MDE profiles online)
If you still have unused, non-expiring days on your account from your previous trip you *should* still have access to making FP+ reservations before your trip for as many days as you have left, but I only know people who've had Annual Passes as their admission media from past trips who still have FP+ reservation access.

Off-site Guests won't be getting Magic Bands by default, but some info has suggested that they'll be able to purchase them at some point in the future if they want. But even if they don't have Bands they can still use the functions of FP+ by tapping their park tickets everywhere instead of the Bands.

The one thing that is still up in the air right now is what kind of roll-out timetable there will be for off-site Guests. We don't know how many parks will have transitioned to FP+ only by April We also don't know what type of access off-site Guests will have to making FP+ reservations beforehand or if they'll be limited to day-of like Animal Kingdom is now.

Great explanation, Rob. Thanks so much for your quick reply! I'm assuming that when we get closer to April, I'll be able to make our fp+ choices? We still have 4 ne days on each band!

Actually, you could test right now to see if you can make FP+ reservations for a random date in January or February. If you can, then the dates you'll need for your April trip will open to you at about the 60-day mark. (Just make sure to cancel any test FP+ reservations you might make)
