I'm surprised this didn't get posted until now, but earlier today the OC Register announced that Jack Lindquist has passed away. Jack started working at Disneyland in 1955, was their marketing manager in the 1950's and 60's and he invented several key Disneyland features we still have today, like Date Nites (1957), Grad Nites (1961), the Disneyland Ambassador program (1965), Disney Dollars (1987), and many more.
Jack retired as the park's first President in 1993, he has a window on Main Street that touts him as the "honorary mayor of Disneyland", and he was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1994.
He was 88 years old, and while he had made a few park appearances in recent years, he'd been in declining health in recent months. He and his wife live not too far from me here in Villa Park, and while we weren't friends over the last 15 years I would see him around town occasionally (we only have one shopping center here) and we'd exchange nods and smiles. He was always friendly and always dressed nicely, always a perfect gentleman.
