Forbes: Disney Facing Furious Backlash Over $17 Billion Theme Park Investments

While I don’t really have a handle on how much space is needed for what…

I thought villains land would ideally replace Tom Sawyer Island. Why? It would separate it from the children who might be too frightened of it. You would have to decide to go there intentionally, and couldn’t just stumble across it. Plus, it would be even more foreboding to have to take the riverboat to villains land. That could be explained any number of creative ways. Maybe they are all trapped there, etc. The HM could be visible in the background.

Outside of that (which is obviously not happening) the boat ride needs more reason to exist in its current large footprint when real estate is in such demand for new attractions.

I could see it keeping a smaller oval track, but make what it goes around more compelling than what we see now. That would free up space for whatever else they want to build.

While I like it, and the river breaks up the park nicely, we can take double decker boat rides every day to and from the TTC, but that’s just considered “transportation” rather than an attraction. That can also be addressed - but this isn’t the imagineering forum lol.

So, I literally haven't checked the Cars thread since a day or two after they announced that they were destroying the RoA and TSI to build it. I still cannot bring myself to return to that thread since I am so disgusted by the idea of wrecking the entire ambiance of the western half of MK. Honestly, I guess I feel like if I ignore that thread it won't happen (or at least I don't have to think about what we are losing).

Some people have indicated here that it is well known that the plans for the Cars location was unpopular - and that was obvious from the start which is why they dumbed the info in the Friday afternoon bad news time rather than presenting it at D23 - but is there any possibility that might modify the Cars plans from what was released? Even if they can just keep a portion of the riverfront to make the actual park setting work as intended would be a huge step up from the disastrous plans they released.

Disney lost the plot...pretty simple. And sad.

Nothing is set in stone until shovels hit the ground, just like they cancelled the Main Street Bypass Theater after they already cleared the spot for it. I think with all this uncertainty in the markets with the tariffs now... maybe Disney will look twice at their plans (hopefully)

Yeah Disney, saving part of the river and not doing any work on the southern portion would be more financially viable than completely demolishing it 😉
