The wife and I have been trying to decide on what resort we wanted to purchase add on points for. Our problem was that our home resort BWV has a shortened life due to the expiration date. So we decided that we would try AKL.
After reading multiple threads on Jambo vs. Kidani, we chose Jambo. The resort is amazing. It seemed to be much more family friendly than Boardwalk with numerous free activities around the resort, including cultural safaris by cast members about their home countries. We attended 2 cultural safaris (zimbabwe and S. Africa), the night vision viewing of the animals and relaxed at the numerous savanah overlooks.
Our Standard Studio Villa was not worn out or dated and we had a great veiw of the zero-entry pool. Everything was clean and everything worked. My only concern was the room location, we were the last room next to the elevators, so noise was somewhat of an issue during the day.
Bus service was the best we have ever had. Our fear of staying at AKL was that because the resort is located so far from things, we would be riding busses for a long time. We did not take into account that AKL bus service did not share busses with any other resorts, so the bus to Magic Kingdom was actually a shorter ride than our Boardwalk bus to Magic Kingdom. We did have our Van with us but we only used it once to get to downtown disney and bring our purchases back.
The food court was your typical little bit of everything, however because of the two restaurants it never seemed busy.
We tried Boma (buffet) and were not really impressed. Not that the food wasn't good or the service lacked, but mainly because we didn't care for most of the African flavors. I told my wife I would have been much happier with a steak and macaroni & cheese. Come to find out that JIKO has that on the menu.
We really like our Boardwalk Villa and on this trip we did a split stay with AKL. I think that after our visit we will be purchasing an add on for AKL and using our 7 month window to stay more often at AKL.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.
