For those of you who have had Gastric Bypass or Lapband Surgery, where do you find the best counter service locations at each park to get in your daily nutritional needs? I know everyone will be different on what they can tolerate.

My husband is having gastric bypass surgery on June 1st and we'll be arriving at Disney on September 22nd for 11 nights staying at POR on the dining plan. Today we were looking through was his sample menu would be starting 6 wks til for life and would like to have some idea on where to get the things he'll be able to eat. Before we'd always stop and get the burgers and fries, but obviously that won't be a choice anymore.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Maybe if you post his diet here we can assist with matching it to Disney's menus?

We don't know exactly what his diet would consist of yet since he hasn't had the surgery yet. We just want to know where those who have had surgery find places to eat that are counter service. He will only be 4 months out after surgery.

I know there are people on here who've had Gastric Bypass or lapband done. Can anyone please tell me where they find counter service meals to fit your needs now?

I have had neither but I know that a person who has had the surgery must eat small portions several times a day and the meals consist of protien in any form and a lot of water. Too many carbs or sugars will have immediate results, not in weight gain, but in bathroom emergencies. I am sure the dietician at your facility will be the best one to look over the selections and suggest a daily regime for you all to follow. I would print out menus of your choices and take them to the dietician and plan from that. Hopefully by then (September) you will have a better understanding of what he can and cannot tolerate. Good luck!

I have lapband which is much different than bypass so I'm going to be of no help. Lapand makes your stomach opening smaller so if you eat too much you puke. Gastric is a smaller stomach but the point of it as that food doesn't get absorbed.

I'm going to second the recommendation that you review the sample menus with the nutritionist in your husband's program.

At 4 months out it's still tricky getting the timing down on food, liquid and medications.

Generally speaking, (each program is different) stick to low-fat protien sources that are not fried. Stay away from breads and DEFINATELY stay away from rice. Stay very hydrated and remember to bring your supplements with you.
