Food research & taste buds

My family and I all were able to sign up for the dining plan for our august trip.

in doing the research for the restaurants you all have posted as your favorite - reviewing some of the menus - i have come to realize one thing: quite a few of the TS food menus are food that my family won't eat, but, that i am willing to try once.

not that all of the menus sound exciting to me (for example: epcot's world showcase restaurants dont' all have menus that are appealing to me, and almost none would be appealing to my family)... just that i am a tad bit more adventurous than they are lol

and my menu research is far from complete... i still have to do some printing and side by side comparisons :D

i am guessing into the future that we may be doing a lot more counter service meals than TS (we can use TS vouchers for CS, yeah?)... but the experience will be good none the less.

so is it safe to assume that you all here have a wide range of eclectic taste buds than the average? if so, why is that? is it because you're adventorous with food? were you raised in a different culture than the american culture of hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza and so exotic foods are your norms?

i hope this doesn't seem like a petty discussion... i just found it all interesting. and in the mean time yet another challenge is ahead of me: convincing my family to try a moroccan or french dish! lol

"eclectic taste buds"? Not really. I'm willing to try just about anything once. My DH & kids are kind of picky though. We have developed a "safe set" of restaurants to try over the years.

Our favorite in EPCOT is Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco. We always have lunch there. They almost always have a Chef's Special running. It always seems to be the same thing too. You start off with a Jasmina Salad, move on to a smaller version of the Sultan Sampler and finish off with Crepes Atlas. Their iced tea is very refreshing and the atmosphere is beautiful. Now looking at the names of these dishes you would thing very exotic, but they are very tasty, made up of ingredients I often use and taste yummy.

My kids would not eat at Spoodles and the DH wasn't too thrilled with the selections either. All the food looked normal to me. The didn't like Akershus in Norway either. They love Liberty Tree Tavern in the MK for lunch or dinner and will sit thru a steak dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse or the Concourse Steakhouse.

Its vacation, we have to try something new, thats the rule.

I suppose my wife and I are fairly adventurous when it comes to food, but we were both raised on hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, etc., so that doesn't really have anything to do with it in our case. Of course, I treat every vacation as a dining experience with everything else a secondary consideration. Our days at WDW are planned around meals. What I have noticed over the past several years is that a number of restaurants seem to be simplifying their menus. I once asked a cast member about it, and apparently they get a fair number of complaints from guests about 1) the size of menus (apparently most people don't like too many choices) and 2) the unfamiliarity of food. Even at the World Showcase restaurants, you will now find that when you drill down into the food choices, you're really getting some fairly familiar food (i.e. at Chefs de France, you can order what basically comes down to macaroni and cheese, a ham sandwich, a steak with fries, etc.). So I certainly don't think you should have to avoid going there.
