Has anyone ever gone to the opening night of the Food and Wine Festival?

Is it super crowded?

Do they do anything special the first night?

Ditto the above. Especially at night...and even more especially on weekend nights...F&W is crowded.

It does seem to get more crowded each year. And the drunks are a big turn-off for me. I don't like them, but I'm an adult and have witnessed young, drunk people before.

It pains me to say this - it really does - but I wouldn't take kids to it. It might be fine, but you never know what you're going to see and hear from the drunkards at F&W. unless you're fine with kids seeing and hearing whatever the drunks can throw out, which is a valid and not to be criticized parenting choice!!!

But if you wouldn't walk your kids through a bar area in a college town, don't take them to F&W in the evenings.

I was there last year on the last weekend, wine and dine half marathon weekend. It was extremely crowded. My mom was walking next to me and kept saying, I can't believe there are still kids here. That was about 6-7 pm on a Friday night. It was not very wdw like, very nightclubish. Almost a turnoff to me who doesn't want to be around that atmosphere at Disney. If that type of event was here in stl, that would be completely different.

It is usually only bad when the locals come on the weekends. I go for a week every Oct. just for the F&WF so I spend most of my time there. During the day on weekdays is a good time to go. I imagine opening week is crazy busy.
