Flying with two airlines?

We are trying to get cheap airfare, like everyone, lol! There are often special fares to Newark and Washington from Halifax. Do you think it would be a good idea to take advantage of those discounted fares then fly a discounted american airline (jet blue, etc)from their to orlando?

Can't see any resaon not to. They might not tag your luggage all the way through, I've never tried, so I don't know how well airlines "play together".

If you can get the itinerary booked as one, it's common for bags to be interlined all the way through. If you don't go that route, tell the ticket agent when checking your bags your details with the other airline (BRING ALL DOCUMENTATION FROM THE OTHER AIRLINE), they should be able to tag it through to your final destination.

hm, so does that mean i would have to grab my checked baggage apon arrival at the US airport, then re-check it at jet blue and get my tickets? Or are you saying that i should be able to get my luggage to go all the way to orlando, and i can just goto the jet blue gate and get my boarding passes?

You should be able to get it all the way through provided that the airlines have an interlining agreement for luggage. If they don't, then you have to pick up your bags in the US and recheck them.

Ill defintally make sure we contact the airlines prior to departure to ensure we can do that. It looks like a really good option, it would save us about $150 to fly aircanda to newark, then take jet blue to orlando...

My daughter had a bad experience with a trip from Chicago to Ft Lauderdale last December using two different airlines. We booked with United. She had a United flight to Charlotte then a US Airways flight (a partner airlines) from Charlotte to Ft Lauderdale and the same in reverse. She was not able to get a seat assignment for her US Airways flights through United and was told to contact US Airways. US Airways was unable to assign her a seat either and told her to contact United. We made numerous attempts to get a seat assignment when we could see on the internet that there were available seats, but neither airlines was able to accomodate us. Both US Airways flights were overbooked and she was on stand-by.:veryconfu

We won't ever book a flight like that ever again!!!

Thats what im worried about, missing a flight and having to pay for another ticket out of pocket or somthing. I guess as long as i allow enough time between connections to gather luggage, re check it, and get back to the gate, allowing an hour and half for that should be good right? I guess im just thinking about the money, saving 150-200$ is a big chunk of change to a univeristy student lol

An hour and a half sounds like a good amount of time, but you could lose that much time easily due to bad weather. We have had flights delayed due to weather anywhere from 1-4 hours.
