I've never actually seen this announcement before. Thanks for posting.

Several interesting notes from that speech...for me at least.
  1. Walt didn't like to make sequels to his films. Very interesting.
  2. Walt didn't want to duplicate attractions...he always wanted to be making new and interesting things.
  3. There will never be another Disneyland.
To me, that shows how much of a genius he was in the fact that he always wanted to be challenging himself and his staff to be coming up with new and exciting ideas and attractions, not just duplicating others.

When he began the Florida Project, the last thing he wanted to do was build another theme park. I think my facts are correct on this, he was forced into it by his brother Roy to help him fund it. As far as he was concerned, he only wanted to build the original concept of the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. I believe that is how I read it in Neal Gabler's book.

What a great article. It's amazing how involved Roy was with WDW and even though he wasn't the "creative" one, he is still a Disney and got the job done!

I have a youtube video of the announcement in 1965 in my personal collection. It's very cool to watch. If you search youtube, look for Florida Welcomes Walt Disney 1965 or Walt Disney 1965 WDW Press Conference. There are several edited down version out there. All are from the same source. Found one in color. That's pretty cool.
