Flights with Virgin - size of bags

So getting suitcases out this morning which are all within 'checked luggage' size so no problem.

But for hand luggage, as Virgin has now reduced the checked luggage since our last trip from 2 bags to 1 have been looking at taking a larger piece of hand luggage, but only bag I have is 1" larger than they say.

Bag is 10" x 12" x 20" and not 9" x 14" x 22", so my question is how strict will they be on size?

Could I take or asking for trouble?

Thanks for any help

In general, the size limits have to do with how big the overhead compartments are. That one inch could cause the door on the overhead bin not to close. Then the real hassle begins, they will have to gate check your bag and everything you planned to have on the plane with you will now be out of your possession and stuck under the plane. With that said, out of all the times I have been on a plane (which is probably 60+ times) unless someone's bag has been ridiculously big, I have only once seen an airline ask people to place their carry on bags in that metal sizer to see if their bags were within the limit.

Is it a soft sided bag or a hard sided bag? If it is a soft sided bag, and you don't fill it, you can normally stuff it in there. But if it is hard sided, or you plan on cramming it full, then I wouldn't chance it.

Hi Karen, will do, bag is soft sided so will go with it I think.

(see you are from Southampton, I am just down the road near Portsmouth, so wish we could fly to WDW from Southampton Airport!!)

Have a great trip
