Flat screens at WDW resort rooms?

I read an article a few weeks ago about 50% of all rooms on the Las Vegas strip expected to have flat panel TVs in the rooms in the next 2 years. Wonder how long WDW will take to start converting Deluxe rooms over. I'm pretty sure the Value and Mods will be at least 4-5 years down the line. I would think if the competition is "perking" up rooms more that WDW will surely be right in line. Unless they are already doing this?? Maybe in the Poly update last year?

Flat screen CRTs or flat (thin) TVs? I ask this question because there is a substantial difference in price. Flat screen TVs are pretty much standard; if you buy a new TV, you're probably getting a flat screen. Whereas flat TVs are more expensive and not as common.

Contemporary is being done (if not already completed).

The rooms at AKL are being done as they are refurbished for DVC.

The family suites at All Star Music have them as well.

Saratoga Springs has them.

Poly is done as well.

Those are the regular (cheap) flat screen TV's...not the LCD/Plasma HDTV's right?

We just came back from Disney in April and stood at The Polynesian and they had LG Plasma tv's. They are beautiful....I always LOVED The Grand Floridian, but after staying at The Polynesian...I'm TORN NOW...:veryconfu

The only one I'm not sure about is the family suites. They state "flat screen" but I've never stayed in one so I'm not sure. The deluxes are getting flat panel televisions, as are DVC.

GF will get them eventually, (sooner rather than later) when they do a refurb on the rooms.

Ok... I'm not sure what the difference is between Plasma and Flatscreen... sorry that just the girl side of me... BUT I can say this much....

Newly refurbished Deluxe rooms do in fact have a thinner, wider, flat screen TV housed within a decorative armoire: Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, and Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas currently feature this.

The newly refurbished rooms in the All Star Music resort, including the Suites, have a "standard depth" tv with a Flat Screen front...

Grand Floridan is currently in the process of slowly refurbishing their rooms, but no word yet as if any buildings/foors have been completed. The main refurb is supposed to take effect later in the summer from my readings.

I really like the look of the new deluxe rooms, for the first time I was actually interested in staying at the Contemporary resort! Several of the other Deluxes are also due for a bedding upgrading that will be happening through out the year as well. It's nice to see Disney taking care of their resorts... it makes spending $300+ on a room a little bit more worth it!

I'm thinking that since the old analog CRT T.V.'s are so cheap that that is the way to go (at least in the past). With the switchover to eventual digital signal, I would think Disney is now contemplating the switchover to digital compatable and flat screan. Now or soon; it is going to happen. Another limiting factor is going to be the furniture that will accomodate a wide screen.

Hope that helps clear up the difference.

Oh cool. I assumed all the deluxes had received the flat screen tv's, and not flat panel TV's.

What's kinda weird about that is with a flat panel TV your picture is pretty crappy unless you're using a high definition box and watching a high definition channel. So until HDTV is the "default" and comes straight through the cable wire the picture must really stink on those TV's.

Not necessarily true for all flat panels. They get better and better all the time but you are right they are designed for HD so naturally they show HD the best. There is a lot more setup that goes into flat panels and the right people should do it only then will you receive the best possible picture.

On another note I just stayed at AKL and the first thing I checked in the room was the TV and was extremely disappointed. I said some people pay $360 a night for this room and get a old tube CRT convex TV. Even though to me the TV on vacation is not that important it still like where is my money going.
