Flat Panel TV Question

I've been wondering about this for a while now and never received a straight answer.
If I want the best quality for a home theater (DVD Viewing, TV),
which is the way to go, LCD or Plasma?

Certainly not projection.. ugg.. 9 months of a Sharp 55" set with an impossible to fix vertical line problem (even on the replacement set Sharp sent to me). Now I have a 57" Sony and it is suffering from a flicker problem for 2+ months Sony knows about, but isn't fixing it for me. :(

My next TV will definitely be plasma or LCD, so I'd like to know also.
