First week of December 2014

I didn't see any related threads posted. If there is, my apologies. We are headed down for December 1-6, 2014, and I recently looked at what rooms might still be available. When I searched for a room for two people, it said the Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Port Orleans, and Wilderness Lodge were all unavailable.

So the "Oh no, the South Americans are going to take over and overfill the parks!", chicken little in me is scared that means each of these resorts is actually sold out for that week. Does anyone know if there is any significance to this? I'm actually hoping it's just paranoia, but I'm a little unsure on what to expect as far as crowds go.

Have you searched for larger room sizes? I believe that standard (2-4 people occupancy) rooms are usually the first to go. Then you would know if they reached capacity or not.

I would go if you want to go and not worry about crowds - the parks are never going to be empty. I've heard the beginning of Dec typically has lower crowds, but they have increased in recent years. Discounted rooms are adding to that trend.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the bigger groups, and those were sold out too, although with varying results depending on the resorts. We have gone the first week of December every few years since my kids were born, and the crowds have always been manageable. But I have also noticed the slight uptick. I might be spooked by those on here who relate horror stories of sudden overflow like this past week, so it's possible (probable?) I'm being irrational.

Will be in POFQ Nov 29th - Dec 2nd, so we shall see what that time frame looks like!

I just checked on the Disney site for those dates, WL has Courtyard view available for $368.20/night, the Poly has Standard view available for $465.40/night. There is a note on both reservation pages though that say those resorts are under renovation. Maybe somebody cancelled so some rooms became available? Other than that, AKL has standard, pool and savanna view available for those dates of up you want deluxe.

Flyover/Cendure...

Are you 'set' on staying at a Disney resort? If you would venture just outside Hotel Plaza Blvd, just behind The Crossroads Shopping Center is The Clarion at Lake Buena Vista..(clarionlbv.com) you can get a rrom for 2 WITH Breakfast each morning for $483.69 We stayed there last year and the rooms were VERY COMFORTABLE with pillow top mattresses frig micro safe 2 pools laundry restaurant 24 hr convenience store bar game room!!!! Its so close that you could take a quick 5-15 minute walk to Disney Springs and catch a Bus...That's how close it is! That price was using a MagiCard that you can use for various discounts...visitorlando.com and print it and start saving!

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I wasn't performing the right search or something. I plugged in a single room for 12/1-6. The results were as said above.

We're fine staying wherever and can adjust. I'm more worried about crowds, but who isn't?

I forgot to make it clear that the hotel price of $483.69 was for 2 adults FOR THE WEEK...not per night like the Disney resort are charging!

IF you want to save money and are fine with staying NEARBY, then try Clarion LBV(clarionlbv.com)

I've been down the first week of DEC the past few years and I don't think the crowds are that bad. Nothing like my Summer trips anyway.

Also likes ruined above, the tour groups don't stay at the deluxe resorts. I know the Pop Warner football tournament is usually around then too and that brings in a ton of people but then again, they don't stay at the deluxe resorts either. Can you move those dates at all? Maybe check the 30th-5th?

I was able to get a room through an employee, so it's not reserving a room that's an issue anymore. It seems as though everyone would agree, and perhaps it's beyond obvious, that there is an inverse relationship between crowd levels and how much fun you're going to have. I really only wondered if there was any relationship between resort availability, particularly the deluxe resorts, and crowd projections. Basically everyone on this site is more knowledgeable about such things than I am.

We've stayed in early November and 2 weeks before Christmas twice. We have never seen any south American tour groups. I think if you check the site you will see they start in January? thru March and then the summer months. I have never heard of them in Nov or Dec. Could be wrong, but if we saw evidence of them, we would not stay at that time at all. Also, the Pop Warner cheerleading groups are from Dec 6th thru 13? We were going to book then, but changed to November. Good luck:)
