Pre-Trip First timer's trip to Disney World

So I've been reading trip reports on this site for a few months now and it's making me super excited to get our holiday underway. (Productivity at work has gone somewhat downhill since I discovered this site though!)

The details:
Who:
Me (Rebecca) - Never been to Disney World before (spent 5 days in DLP a couple of years ago). I am super organised and love a good plan (I have my touring plans all ready to go). Will try most rides, big or small, though Tower of Terror may be beyond me.

DH: Has been to Disney World twice as a child with his parents and siblings. Not a big Disney fan, and would rather holiday elsewhere, given the choice. Loves any thrill ride, and is over the moon about Starbucks opening on Main Street.

When:
October 5th-12th 2013

Where:
Port Orleans French Quarter

Why:
DH had a moment of weakness and agreed we could go, so we went to the travel agent that night and booked.

Other Info:
We booked through a UK travel agent, Thomsons. We got the counter service dining plan (it was free, so we figured why not?), and have a shuttle bus arranged from Sanford to the hotel and back again.

Although we're counter service, DH loves a good steak, so we've got ADR at Le Cellier the Monday of our trip.

We've also got Cirque du Soleil reservations on the Tuesday. We're very much get up for rope drop people, so I'm hoping we'll get some afternoon downtime to chill out and meander, even if we don't make it back to the hotel to nap.

The Unofficial Guide has become my Bible for this trip, I'm just waiting for my 2014 copy to turn up the first week of September.

Here is the draft plan for the week (based on seeing all the parades/fireworks, and Touringplans' crowd ratings):

Saturday:
Arrival at POFQ. No plans.

Sunday:
Animal Kingdom

Monday:
Epcot
ADR Le Cellier 4.40pm
Illuminations 9.00pm

Tuesday:
Chill out day
Cirque du Soleil 6.00pm

Wednesday:
Magic Kingdom
Electrical Parade and Wishes

Thursday:
Hollywood Studios
Fantasmic 8.00pm

Friday:
Magic Kingdom

Saturday:
Flight home :(

You are doing it right by doubling up on your MK visit during your trip! Of course everyone has their favorite park and all, but MK is where it all started, right?! Plus, everything about MK is classic Disney! Every time we go we begin and end at MK and no matter how days we have, the majority of them were spent at MK. I just LOVE it! As far as restaurants go, have you looked into the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at HS? it's got great theming (you sit in a car) and they run a loop of old "B" Sci-Fi movie clips. :)
At MK, we are going to try to get into Be Our Guest for lunch this year for the first time. Is that on your list of "to-do's"?
It sounds like you got Epcot covered with Le Cellier. I've never been there (I've only been to WDW with small kids) but I hear that it's fantastic. As for AK, we've only eaten at Tusker House there and have not been disappointed. The Character breakfast was amazing, and the character interaction was really great.
Have fun banging out the details when your travel book arrives!!!

I agree a 10000000% though this year I'm starting with AK first then MK (EMH oops!) But of course, ending with MK its like a tradition, its a must for me!

-BOG is definitelty worth going even just to check out the restaraunt it self it is amazing, Sci-fi is pretty awsome, I personally like 50's better. Both are really great options

Make sure you eat at pecos bills in mk if you like burgers. It's a great fixins bar. I would skip the Starbucks though. Not thinking it's a real magical thing for disney.

Thanks for all your comments.

We haven't really thought about food. Other than Le Cellier, we don't plan on doing any table service restaurants, we'll just stick with our Quick Service Dining Plan credits. We're not huge foodies, though I do have an extremely sweet tooth.

I'm not entirely sure what Dole whips are, but they sound like something I'd enjoy!

They are pineapple soft serve and are absolutely heavenly. If you opt for the float then they add pineapple juice but the sweetness of the ice cream can make the juice taste a little sour. We love Pecos Bill because we can both find something to eat. The Land is a good place in Epcot if you need somewhere to grab a quick meal. Flame Tree Barbecue at AK is wonderful. Can't give you any quick service advice for the Studios because we usually avoid eating at them.

Quick Service plans are good value. Last time we went we couldn't use all of the credits up - so spent them in DTD before we flew home. Others have commented on places to try - and the food court at POFQ is good. You can also easily walk or get the boat to PORS which also has a good food court.

And you're having a chill out day! I bet that doesn't happen once you are there - you won't want to miss anything going on in WDW:cool:

We're having a chill out day because my DH isn't really that keen on Disney o_O and I didn't want to overwhelm him with too much marching around! Basically it's likely to be his day to choose what we do (while I chose for every other day!)

A chill out day is a great idea! We are having ours today (hence my ability to post on this thread while there are sunny skies out there in Orlando this AM!) We had originally planned to take it tomorrow (on a Saturday to avoid weekend crowds) but we were feeling the need for it a day sooner. I am really looking forward to re-energizing and relaxing today. The plan is a leisurely visit to DTD and lunch at the Earl of Sandwich, a visit to the pool in the afternoon, and then dinner at Ohana. I think our chill out day will go along way to fend off the crankies -- especially when we still have 4 park days left to go!
