We will probably be staying offsite for the first time in Dec. We want something very close to disney(easy to get to the four parks driving), affordable and comfortable for 5. We have stayed at POP, CBR, Contemporary & POR and enjoyed all of those. Any suggestions?

Of the 5 times I went to Orlando, 4 of those I stayed off-site, at International Drive. In 2, we stayed in this hotel right across the street from Universal, it used to be called Twin Towers Hotel, or something like that. It was kinda pricey. The other 2 were in a hotel up the road a bit, like a block away from Wet n' Wild, it used to be called Gateway Inn. That one was very affordable, and cozy. Hope that helps.

Holiday Inn Nickelodeon Hotel is a good one... www.nickhotel.com

also, the Marriott World Center and the Gaylord Palms are both good.

I'd personally avoid most of the downtown disney area hotels, but if you must the Holiday Inn at WDW is doing a few good promos.

There are holiday homes for rent off 192 that may suit the needs of 5.

I have stayed in regular hotels on 192 (be careful, it's a very long road, so some are over a half hour drive away, others nestle right next to World Drive)

I've also stayed at Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista - leterally around the corner from the entrance to WDW. It's nothing fantastic, but it's cheap, clean and has free continental breakfast buffet.

We`ve stayed at a number of hotels on the Hwy 192 strip. I would recommed staying west of I4 as opposed to east. The further you go east of I4 on 192, the more run down the hotels get and the more "inner-city" the neihborhood`s are. West of the Disney "main-gate" is newer and closer to the orange groves.

Every time I have stayed off site, I have been very satisfied with these two hotels. my favorite is the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort on S.R. 535 in Lake Buena Vista. It is about 1/2 mile from the Disney entrance on 535 across from crossroads shopping ctr. it is a resort, and caters to families with kids(without kids too).they have kidsuites, which is good if you have kids. the kidsuite rooms have seperate areas for kids and the adults, each area having its own tv,vcr, phone. the kidsuite rooms can sleep up to 4 kids, each having their own bed. the resort also has a nice pool and entertainment. all rooms have kitchens. only paid about $89-$99 a night.another hotel is Country Inn and Suites on Apopka Vineland Rd. in Lake Buena Vista. This hotel is about 1/2 mile the oppisite direction from the Disney entrance across from crossroads. They also have kidsuites. Last time i stayed only available room had a king bed and sofa bed, which was great and spacious. all the rooms have fridge/microwave. the breakfast is good too. you can make your own waffles(they already mix the batter for you) and they also have lots of other foods. the lobby has free cookies and tea/coffee 24 hrs. a day. try one of these hotels out nice pool which usually isn't too busy

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Family Suites. Really nice and they offered a wonderful breakfast buffet that was free. I have been keeping tabs on their website and they recently announced a renovation to Nickelodeon Family Suites. This will bump up the price somewhat. You can check them out at nickhotel.com.

We are staying at the Caribe Royale (1.5 miles from Disney) in September. It is highly recommended by mousesavers.com and I also checked TripAdvisor.com and the reviews are outstanding. They have 1 BR suites (2 Queens+sofa bed) and 2 BR/2 BA villas, either of which would be ideal for 5 people. Their pool is incredible with lots of waterfalls and a water slide. The suites go for $110-125 and the villas are $220+ but are gorgeous with whirlpool tub in the master bedroom. Good luck!
