I have always stayed at the value resorts (All-stars and Pop) and have never stayed at a deluxe one. But that's gonna change over Halloween week. They were offering pass holders rates and I decided to splurge and treat myself.

Going to fly my 71 year old dad in so we can go to the Halloween night party at MK, then food and wine festival at Epcot. Got a woods view room. Is getting a higher floor better? Booked a dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Looking for any tips or pros and cons from anyone who has stayed there.

Awesome resort and atmosphere. There is a geyser that goes off at the top of the hour. I don't think there is any additional benefit to being higher with the forest view.

The geyser is fun to watch. The lobby and the lounge are nice places to relax at night. It is a great resort, and I love riding the boat over to the MK.

You'll love it.

Though, not sure how active your Dad at 71 is...Whispering Canyon can get very...loud.

Food is great though!

Have you looked into Artist's Point?

We will be staying at the WL for the 2nd time in September. My favorite is the Contemporary but I could not justify the $1000 difference in the price of our trip to stay there this time. The WL is lovely!!!!! It is warm and homey and very comfortable...just the right size and all of the conveniences are close by...the restaurants, store, front desk etc. Don't let the name "Whispering Canyon Cafe" fool you. The restaurant is loud and quite "interactive". As adults, we choose to go there only one time during our trip and that is it. We prefer a, shall we say...less active dining experience. You will love the boat ride to the MK and the Contemporary for monorail access. The bus service the the other parks is convenient and quick. Enjoy your stay and be sure to walk the grounds.....it is especially lovely in the early morning and evening.

My husband and I have a few years on your dad. And we enjoy Whispering Canyon. Did it twice 2 years ago, each time putting in a request to be in the main dining room. But we certainly also like dining in a quiet, more elegant setting.

Think for yourselfer
Firstly 70 is the new 40, so no worries there.

I don't think there is much benefit to having an upper floor. Especially with the woods view. So don't be bummed if they put you down low.

Wilderness Lodge is the top resort at WDW, IMO. You are going to be blown away.

Great resort, very beautiful. If your dad is active, there are some walking trails nearby. I highly recommend the quiet pool near the spa. Very few kids and laid back there.

Thanks for the tips. We will be spending most of the evenings back at the lodge, so it's good to know there will be some things to do. We used to go to Yellowstone back when I was a kid for vacations, so he is so excited to be staying here because he said it reminded him of that.

We just love staying at the Lodge. In fact, we'll be there in two weeks. We only did Woods View once. I think they put us on the third floor which is kind of in the middle and we loved it. The plus side to this view is that it's on the quieter side of the hotel which was nice at night when we were tired. If you have time take a walk around inside and outside. All the little details are just amazing. Some of my favorite little things are the beaver heads in the elevator and the animal tracks in the concrete outside.

Sit on the dock and watch the Electrical Water Pageant.
Does it go over into Bay Lake? I saw it from Contemporary a few weeks ago and it sortof "disappeared"...I wondered where it went (the kid joked that the dragon was coming ashore!)

The Electrical Water Pageant goes past the Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness and around Discovery Island.

I am so happy for you both. Sounds like fun!

When the geyser goes off, it really goes OFF. People run like mad because there is just water all over. Like bees out of a hive that just got whacked. You may get wet. You be separated, lol. (You may even want to stand back a few feet.) I don't usually mention how it goes off because it is really fun to be taken by surprise! But, with your dad being older, I don't know how much he'd want to have to scatter in commotion. So, FYI. :)

I like to be on a higher floor, but that's a personal preference.

Have a wonderful visit!!
