First time at DLR with toddler

I'm no stranger to DLR, but haven't been in a couple years (since before MaxPass). We're headed in August (sometime within Aug 18-24) to bring my 2 y/o for the first time and I can't wait! I have two main questions:

1- Should we get MaxPass? Based on the list of attractions with MaxPass I don't really think I need it, but definitely want to err on the side of caution. I probably won't be doing a ton of coasters this trip to even really do rider swap. Our visit is part of a larger SoCal trip and the same week that local APs are no longer blacked out and I know it'll be crazy.

2- Should we do Park Hopper? We're currently planning on only doing one day. Pre-toddler this would be a no brainer, but I'm trying to manage my expectations and not push the limit too much. Is there a firm date when a bug's land is closed? I know he'd love that, but if it's closed I feel it most likely won't be worth a trip to DCA.

The most important thing is to just focus this trip on relaxing and enjoying the time at DL with your toddler. Don't worry about all the attractions like you would touring with an older child. Do an early morning at Fantasyland and do NOT do Snow White, Toad, or Pinocchio as your first dark ride. Small World, Small World, Small World. See the park through your youngster's eyes and don't rush. Have fun discovering the little things that your child finds amazing (it could be ducks, the baby tractor "petting zoo" in Cars Land, Turtle Talk) that most people walk right past. Have a great time! :D
