First time at Disney!

Hi guys
teeth_smile.gif

So my boyfriend and I will be visiting Disney for the first time ever this September/October coming, and I'm now trying to decide which restaurants we should treat ourselves to once we're there!

A bit of background first - we are both from the UK but are currently in Australia on our trip of a lifetime, where we've been living and working in Sydney on working holiday visas. We will be leaving Sydney in June and travelling up the East coast for a couple of months, before travelling around New Zealand for 2 weeks, visiting the Cook Islands for 2 weeks, driving around the West Coast of California for around a month, and then finally spending just over a month in Florida (26 nights altogether in Orlando and 7 nights in Miami). Obviously with all of this to take into account we cannot afford to splash out for such a long time without any income, but we know that we will have enough spare money to treat ourselves once in a while (we've been working hard and saving hard here in Sydney!).

We visited Orlando in 2011 but just stayed on International Drive and didn't visit any Disney parks, but really enjoyed all of the other parks. We also went to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights and had a BLAST (this is completely our kind of thing - we love all things Halloween/scary/thrilling!), and will be doing this again this year for sure! We have therefore split our stay in Orlando into two - 12 nights doing Disney parks and 14 nights for all of the others. We already have our tickets which include a 14 night ultimate ticket for Disney, Discovery Cove Ultimate ticket to cover Seaworld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens, and a 14 night 3 park ticket for Universal, IOA and Wet N Wild (the only park outside of Disney that we didn't visit last time), which we bought online and then had my parents mail over here!

We have booked 12 nights at Disney's All-Star Music resort (

) which I am EXTREMELY excited about! We were going to stay in one of the cheaper hotels around the Lake Buena Vista area, but after finding a great deal on Expedia for only around $20 per night extra to stay on Disney property, made the very swift decision that staying onsite would be completely worth that $260! I am a huge Disney fan and had aallll of the films which I would watch religiously as a kid (and still do!), and my siblings and I would beg our parents every year to take us to Disneyworld, but alas it never happened
sad_smile.gif
So now at 24 I am ridiculously excited that I am finally going there! My boyfriend isn't quite as, enthusiastic, lets say - he loves theme parks but wasn't really much of a 'Disney kid' - however I am SURE that he will love it once he's there

For the most part of our stay we will probably be eating at quick-service restaurants to save a bit of money, however we've decided to treat ourselves to 3 evening meals at table-service restaurants and now need some opinions on the 3 that we should choose to visit - there are sooo many to choose from! We probably can't really afford to go to the top-range restaurants such as Victoria and Alberts - although it looks amazing, we don't even have the right clothes packed with us to visit there, and it is definitely way out of our budget!

So, if you have survived that essay and are still reading (! ) - my question to you is: what would you recommend as the 3 places that we eat at? We're not particularly fussy eaters and will try anything so any cuisine is fine.

Also, any other general tips or suggestions for our stay in Orlando would be welcome and very much appreciated!

Many thanks in advance!

From one new member to another, welcome! Since you both are adventurous, why not try something in World Showcase at Epcot? We've been pretty happy eating there and my husband is kind of picky so that's really saying something. You could also try eating at one of the other resorts just to see what they are like inside.

Well, I think that depends on what you like. I know you said you'd try anything, but it's important to pick what you like.

All of my family was impressed with our meals at Tempen Edo in Epcot. It's a Japanese restaurant, and they cook the food in front of you. It's great! :) We also always have to eat at Rose and Crown also in Epcot. It's English and we actually ate there twice on our last vacation. I also like Boma. I don't think the rest of my family was as impressed as I was though, so I can't say whether it will be to your taste. My mom loves San Angel Inn, which I admit is pretty good (Even though I don't care too much for Mexican food).

Welcome to WDWMagic and good luck planning your vacation!

A magical welcome to you! There are so many excellent dining choices you must discover which ones you like my suggestion try them all! That's my dream but not practicle in a sinlge trip so here goes. You must do Chef Mickey's nothing like being in the Contemporary with the fab 5. Breakfast at the Crystal Palace first seating you can get will get you into the park before opening wich is magical all by itself but you will also enjoy the meal. Booking a Fantasmic dining package at either Hollywood Brown Derby or Mamma Melrose will get you a quite fine meal and save you a lot of time waiting for Fantasmic. For counter service you must try Sunshine Seasons and Tangerine Cafe in EPCOT. Have a most magical first trip!

Hi Brits,Now being Scottish I like value for money ( Theres a surprise ) But at Disney most restaurants are that bit more expensive than outside the magic bubble so I expect something that little bit more magical for my $$$$$. Or £££££. Heres my favourites..Californian Grill ( Contempory Resort ) Jiko ( Animal Kingdom Lodge ) Sanaa ( Animal Kingdom Lodge ) Via Napoli ( Italy/Epcot ) Bon Apetit ;)

Hi,

You must be so excited about your trip! We have done the dining plan e last 2 trips and this has meant we have eaten in far more places than all our other previous visits where we would eat at quick service locations the majority of the time.

I agree on the teppan edo which is a great teppanyaki restaurant in Epcot. We also loved le cellier in the Canada part of Epcot but this is notorious for being hard to get a reservation so book well in advance. I wouldn't recommend the rose and crown, although it is great, as a fellow Brit I found it a bit 'naff' and who wants to eat in the English part when you come from England right?!

Try t-Rex in downtown disney...this is a fun place to eat and the steaks and cocktails are really good!

Brown derby is amazing and you can secure priority seating for the fantasmic evening show when you make reservations here. At the side of the brown derby there is a cake and coffee place that does amazing cakes...that's a just stop place!

You should definitely do a character dining experience! Chef mickey's at the contemporary resort or Cinderella's table are my personal favs! Let them know if you are celebrating anything too!

There is the option of dinner shows too...the Polynesian resort and wilderness resort both offer great shows and delicious food!

I have so many more and could go on all day but I hope this helps.

Enjoy your trip - you've found the best site for tips and news so you're well on your way!

Welcome! My favorite of all so far has been 'Ohana. I also enjoyed Le Cellier filet mignon ( before it became a signature restaurant). My Mom really enjoyed the character family style dinner at The Garden grill w/ Chip n Dale ( revolving restaurant around the scenes from The Land boat ride).
Have fun! Enjoy!:D

If it is your first time at Disney World, forget all of the restaurants in Epcot. You can find all of those kinds of food in any big city. My recommendations are not the greatest food you can get, but they are the most disney-fied experiences. #1 should be Cinderella's Royal Table. You get to eat in the castle with the princesses and totally live out what you wanted to do when you were a kid. Nothing is more Disney than that. I would also recommend the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. The food is just normal American sandwiches, but you won't find that kind of overall dining experience anywhere else. Third, I would pick either the late luau at the Polynesian (followed by watching the MK fireworks from the beach) or Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. That place is just fun. If you go there, ask for ketchup.

It really depends on what you like, Definitely treat yourself to a meal in EPCOT.
Id also suggest Sci-fi Dine-In or Hollywood Brown Derby (which is signature, however its not as expensive as the others and you can book the fantasmic dinner package which is about 50 - 60 dollars/ per person)
MK & AK both have great Quick Service options
Downtown Disney has great table service choices, again it really depends on your taste... but you can't go wrong! Raglan Road is great, they have wonderful dancers and good food.

 Personally, Id drop it to 11 days and take that extra money and splurge at a signature rest. like Yachtsman or Jiko, but thats just me, I go to disney for the food lol
