Looking to go to Disneyland for the first time in mid January 2014. I know the average temperature is around 70 degrees. just wondering how the weather is at that time of year? Looking to stay at the Disneyland hotel or the residence inn just east of the property. I have stayed at other residence inns before and like that type of hotel. has anyone stayed at this particular hotel? Is it in descent walking distance to the parks? Also I noticed on the Disneyland website I don't see any dining plans like in Walt Disney World, Are there any type of dining plans at Disneyland? Thank you for any advice you can share.

The weather in January is, like you said, fair. Temps hover in the seventies. It can get pretty cold, but the sun is usually out. I've never stayed at the Residence Inn, but I can tell you walking may take ten to fifteen minutes. I recommend choosing to opt out of staying at a Disney hotel.

DON'T BOTHER WITH THE DISNEYLAND RESORT DINING PLAN. It's useless and just plain dumb. Just pay as you go or put some money on a Disney gift card.

I would take a light jacket or sweatshirt especially for at night and in the mornings. And as Raven said you really don't get your money's worth on the dining plan at DL.

Dining and food service in CA is just a bit different than you may be used to, if you are used to WDW. Few places need reservations -- Blue Bayou (DLR), Carthay Circle (DCA), Napa Rose (GCH), and maybe Steakhouse 55 (DLH). At the rest of the table-service places, most of them have a short wait or no wait at all. There are plenty of counter-service restaurants, as well. Until recently, I didn't even know DLR had a Dining Plan available. I really don't think it's worth it.

Then again, we didn't do the DDP last year in WDW, and we did not regret it.
