Well the week has finally arrived. After landing late on the 11th, we stay one night at the Regal Sun. then We check in to the Wilderness Lodge on Friday the 12th. The day is totally open. Now the question is what would you do on your first day with nothing planned for that day. We have a 10 day pass so can afford to use it on the 12th if that is your opinon.

Thanks

Much depends on whether you want to use an admission that night or not.

Since it hardly costs anything to add an extra day, consider going to a park. I would suggest taking the boat to MK and start off right at the crown jewel of WDW :king:

If you're too tired after travelling for a park, just wander the grounds and the lobby of your resort, it's beautiful!

I almost always go to Epcot for dinner (Counter Service or Table Service if I've gotten a reservation before-hand) and Illuminations.

I need my Reflections of Earth fix as soon as I can after I arrive. :D

I think the only time I haven't gone right to Epcot was my first trip after Everest opened. I headed right there, because I'd missed its opening on my previous trip by only a couple weeks.

I always start at Epcot too, but if it's your first trip and you're at the WL anyway, take the boat over to the MK for the day. See where it all began (in Florida..) :)

We use the day we arrive to explore the resort. There are so many things to see at each resort. We always arrive on a Saturday. We try to arrive as early as we can & check in. We wander the resort, taking pictures, shopping, swimming, etc. Then we go back to the room to change for Chef Mickey's. After Chef Mickey's, we ride the monorail to MK for the parade & fireworks. We have done this every trip and it has become tradition to do that now. Anyway, that's what we do!

Explore the resort first, check out the gift shop, then head to the MK as fast as possible because for me it is all about MK. I could go everyday to that park alone and not miss the other parks. Something about walking down Main Street and having all the cares in my world melt away.

Because we have AP's its not a "waste" to fo to a park for a fractional day. And really, at that point for you its like an extra what, $10 ?

If I am with my kids, they usualy want to go to MK. By myself, I head over to EPCOT>

We usually unpack, then take a walk around the resort and check everything out again and buy our mugs for that visit, and then head to Downtown Disney for the evening before turning in for a good night's sleep. Then we wake up the next morning and hit the ground running by heading to Magic Kingdom for our first full day at WDW!

Hope you have a magical trip!

We normally unpack and go to bed as its been such a long day already and the time difference doesn't help. This year, we're off to EPCOT for Christmas Day and Illuminations

It depends, if I arrive early I'm heading to the parks no matter what but if I arrive a little later or if I couldn't get to the park I would spend a little time enjoying the resort and then head out to DTD for some dinner and entertainment. You could go also resort hopping ending up at the Poly to watch wishes.

First thing we do is check out or room, send the kids to the Roarin' Forks for our mugs and a soda. We enjoy them while we set up our room and then head out to the MK via the boat.
Looks like you will be checking in early (since you are staying off site the night before) so you can head out to any park you like or head to DTD for some shopping (that is our last day plan though). Enjoy my favorite hotel in WDW!

Thanks for the suggestions.

We can't wait. After almost a year of planning we can't believe it is almost here. Thanks again to all that have helped plan our first true family vacation.

We get in late Christmas night and I'm trying to figure out where to meet up with a friend for drinks before she flys out the next morning.

But for our first day I'm getting up for MK's park open (I know its early but I'll be really excited), hanging out in the park and visiting friends, then meeting my parents at Wilderness Lodge for brunch at Wispering Canyon Cafe, then we are going to explore the monorail hotels to see the gingerbread stuff and look at the new DVC at contempory. After that I don't know what we'll do. My parents only have a few days of tickets and I'll have my cast ID so I plan on spending time people watching in the parks and maybe working some.

Wander around WL for a bit then take a boat ride to the Contempoary, get on the Monorail and take a trip to the other resorts in the area (Polynesian, Grand Floridian). Eventually get some dinner I'm sure you will be hungry after all that maybe even try the Luau at the Poly (Spirit of Aloha) or maybe Mickeys Backyard BBQ or the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at the Fort Wilderness Resort . You will be suprised how much there is to do just at these Resorts, they will easily fill an afternoon & evening. Have Fun!

Great ideas for food guys, but it may be impossible to get ADR's at this late date (they arrive in 3 days). I forgot to mention earlier that you may want to get the paper from the front desk and do the Hidden Mickey Hunt in the lobby, that's a fun thing for kids to do.

We are not arriving until late March, however we too will be staying off site the night before check in. Maybe I am crazy, but our current plan involves an 810 am seating for Cindy's Royal Table which will require us to get up at 5, check out of offsite hotel, check in to Port Orleans Riverside and get to MK to get the meal.

Its our first day there and we did not eat at the Castle on our last visit. I think it will be a special way to start our trip. Just hope all are not too cranky!

I alway's arrive early so.....if room is ready, throw carry on bag in room then put on WDW Today channel for a few minutes then out to MK. Total time in room, usually no more than 10-15 minutes. If room isn't ready then put carry on bags in storage then directly to MK.
