Fireworks fallout question

sxeensweet

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
In which direction does fireworks fallout usually land at the Magic Kingdom?

Depends on the wind direction any given day. Just like at Epcot for Illuminations depends on the wind. I personally have never felt anything at MK fall on me but have at Epcot if we were in the wrong wind direction area. Lol :)

Back in new Fantasyland mostly. I've been hit with it anywhere from Little Mermaid out of New Fantasyland over by Fantasmic and the Carousel. It depends on wind etc on the given night.

But FWIW, I would rather watch Wishes from behind the castle than in front of it.

Information on winds is often compiled in a wind rose. You can probably find some for the Orlando area. Anything more specific will require projectile calculations.

Umm. Depends. For The fireworks shot right by the castle, I've gotten fallout from all around. The ones from the launch pad behind the park land closest to be our guest and little mermaid, if at all.

Now don't get me started on DHS- but watch it from far away. Very far away

We watched Wishes from behind the castle for the first time last week and WOW, it was awesome. It helps is you know firing order a little bit so your not whipping your head back and forth to catch the effects. Plus it's not crowded at all. But to somewhatd answer the OP's question, the area between the castle and the carousels was closed off for about 15 minutes after the show while maintenance walked the area looking for fallout.

Depends on the wind.

If the winds are coming from the East, West, or South? Very little; just the castle effects from the rooftops and that would be in a closed off area.

If the winds are strong out of the north? You run the risk of problems. The two small fires they had were both on nights with strong (15+) winds from the north and low humidity.

I've had small, inconsequential, minute, particles of debris land on my head, but thats a slight inconvenience I'm willing to put up with for a dazzling display thats making my vacation more thrilling. Hope Disney doesnt make any changes because someone sues for ash in their eye.

I've had what looked like several tiny pieces of paper in my eyes after watching reflections, stung like hell for about ten minutes . We were stood at the railings near England , the wind changed as some fireworks were fired on the lake bank very near to us. Makes me wonder if it happens a lot . I feel you make a calculated risk that you may get some small debris drifting your way at a display . I did think about finding an eye bath but by the time we walked to the exit the stinging had gone . I just found the paper stuff in the corner of my eyes the next day !

I have another, similar-yet-somewhat-different question now: do they still use gunpowder or have they gone to compressed air like at Disneyland?

Everything at WDW is black powder lift change. There used to be 3 air launch shells used at the start of Reflections of Earth, but they used the 10 year supply of timing chips and did not want the expense of creating more. They since reverted to powder launch for those 3.
