I know i know..its still an "in progress" web browser..but its popularity is rapidly expanding..and i for one use it..

so this is why im saying this...

forums run really slow on it....and also..the new menus (user CP, FAQ, Member list etc) dont work with it.

Just a heads up ;)

Works fine for me speed wise.

The drop-down menus (like the profiles) work on my XP machine at home, but don't work on my 2000 machine at work. Both are running Firefox 0.9.1. What are your settings in "Advanced Javascript Options"?

The only thing that doesn't work on the site for me is the poll on the main page.

I'm using Firefox, and it runs really slowly for me, too, compared to using IE. I find that after I click something in the "User CP/New Posts/etc" bar, it takes a long time for the page to change over. I've also found, though, that moving the cursor around a bit after I click it seems to help. Or maybe it's just my imagination. ;)

The site will only ever be tested with Internet Explorer for compatibility. The site may work in some of the more obscure browsers, but it will be more a case of luck than design. Explorer has such a huge user base, and is the browser used by 99.8% of users on this site. :)

Running Firefox on my PC at work, running on XP, this site is slow. I haven't tested it with the new version of IE that comes with SP2, which finally contains pop up blockers. The new version of IE runs pretty well, though. However, Microsoft being Microsoft, the big new feature of SP2 is supposed to be the improved firewall to protect against intrusions, except I had to turn it off because it was blocking real-time access to my Exchange server. Running Firefox on my new eMac at home, the speed is fine.

It's a real shame that everyone gears their sites to run for IE. It's an insecure, buggy, drek of a program.

Yeah...i know...buuuuut..doesnt hurt to give you the heads up, especially now that firefox is gaining HUGE popularity amoung PC users. You may get a few lil complaints here and there, and im sure as firefox becomes more "polished" (since technically..its still beta), it'll run better.

Indeed: 12-15% of web users now use Mozilla

Hmmm..... On my old P3 - 450 running XP and a stable older version of Mozilla, things go slow. That is unless the discussion board window gets covered by a different window. Changing from blue daylight to the quick setting helped a fair amount.

On my newly built Athlon 64 running XP and SP1 Foxfire loads the forums instantly. I wish I had the time to troubleshoot why it is slow on some systems and not for others. Could it be a clean OS install versus old OS install issue?
Not a lot of help to people with slow systems I'm sure, but maybe a step in figuring out what is the problem.

Ok..fixed a few problems...

First off..run the forums in their "express" themed mode..that helps..

then..get some firefox extensions! Namley the adblocker...and...sorry..but you gotta block the pretty flash banner. once done...the menus all work :)

as i find more workarounds..i'll post em

I just updated to a nightly and they have done some work on the Javascript DOM.

The drop-downs no longer work, and I get JS errors (window.event is not defined in vbulletin_global.js line 88) and (Obj1_DOFSCommand is not defined). Check your Javascript Consoles, people :)

Have you guys installed Firefox over a previous version. I just uninstalled mine, deleted the Program Files/Mozilla Firefox directory and re-installed. All the drop-down menus are working again.

(also, not having flash installed speeds things up a little [blue daylight widescreen]). If you are having troubles try one of the latest nightlies, with the IE Javascript compatibility patches (document.all), it may help.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040726 Firefox/0.9.1+

You should never say "ever" Steve. Alternative Browsers are growing in popularity. Even the US government has issued warnings to say stop using IE (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=16922), and ignoring the [huge] security holes, IE is probably a year or two behind now feature-wise.

I've got my whole family converted to Firefox now, and even with their lack of computer geekness, they can see the benefits of FF (mostly security, tab browsing, pop-up blocking, faster rendering [usually])
