Fireball at EPCOT???

I got back a couple of days ago from my WDW trip, and I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on something...

On Friday, Sept 29th (first day of Food and Wine as well as an EMH evening) around 9:50 (after Illuminations, of course) there was a huge fireball near Mexico that seriously lit up the sky. We were on our way out and I didn't have time to ask what it was... so does anyone here know?

Thanks in advance!

Leftover propane from that night's performance of Illuminations. Any propane that was not used during Illuminations and remains in the Inferno Barge has to be blown off and cannot be used the next day. I'm surprised they did it so early. They usually do it an hour to an hour and a half after Illuminations. The female preshow voice announces that the effect in the center of the lagoon is planned and controlled, she then counts down from five, and boom. I love bveing one of the few that stays behind and watches this effect. It really feels like there is no one left in the park at 10:30 following a 9 Illuminations performance.

It is the fire barge for RoE. Before they bring it in they light it up and then they bring it in. Last week me and Taryn were walking out of the park and they started a count down and then we ran to World Showcase. We saw it and left. You can fell the heat far away from the place they put it. Over this summer I was over on the beaches of the BC and I felt it there. Was it an EMH night or was it open until 9.

inferno barge

I see it every night on wednesdays and or fridays. It's funny because I tell people to see it and it only last for a a couple of seconds and afterwards they stay there looking out waiting for more.
