So I work part time in a grocery store that has a small coffee kiosk. There is a lovely woman from Australia that works there. She has been in the US about a year and has a thick Aussie accent. The other day a customer came in and asked her where she was from. She replies Australia. Then the customer actually said, "your English is very good, what language do they speak in Australia". Now we have all heard of people like this, but I have never seen one personally until now. 🤦‍♀️

That's what we get for the "no one fails" policy. If some of those had failed they might have picked it up the second time around.

I have a friend who's Korean. She's been here since she was 2, and her brother was born here. She regularly gets comments about how good her English is. She's like "well yes, I'm very good at speaking my native language..."

When on vacation in Jamaica I talked with some of the local rastas. The national language is English but I had no idea what most of those guys were saying to me in conversations.
