Filming at MGM

What was the last movie that was filmed at MGM? Why don't then film more movies here in Florida at MGM? This would improve the Theme park here in Florida.....

I would say the last major production at the Studios in Florida was probably The HBO series “From the Earth to the Moon". Unfortunately the idea of moving some production to Orlando failed for both Disney and Universal, and both their Florida studios ending up with very little production business. It seemed that cast and crew did not favor the relocation to Orlando, and prefered to work out of Hollywood where most of the action is.

Disney retains some of its production capabilties, with things like the Millionaire specials that have been shot in the Studios.

My former roommate was on the production crew of From the Earth to the Moon.

He had said the biggest issue was that Orlando does not have significant pre and post production companies, so even with From the Earth to the Moon, where the main portions were shot here....everything originated in Hollywood, and most post-production was done there too.

Thats was the one time I took the backstage tour and was actually excited was when from the earth to moon was shooting I thought it was coolest thing to see some of the production sets and actors, if you really think about it doens't make any sense to have 2 studios , just duplicating assets you already have.

They still do shoot quite a bit of stuff in and around orlando. Sadly, its mostly direct to dvd, commericals, independent films, foreign productions, or music video shoots.
