faxing room requests

I have never done this and was thinking about faxing a room request to Pop Century for our stay later this month...Does it really help? How far in advance should I do it? What is the best area to request to be close to food court/bus stops? OR will I just be a total PITA by doing this???:drevil:

Although I have never stayed at Pop Century, I don't think that any of the resort take FAX room requests anymore. You need to make your requests at the time you make your reservations.

However, we have made requests both the older FAX version and at the time of reservation and had pretty good luck.

From my understanding it does nothing. At one time it would make a difference but not any longer. You must make your special requests on your reservation. Also anytime you modify your reservation it is very important that you make sure any previous requests are still on the reservation. From what I hear the software likes to erase special requests when modifications are made.

This is what I was told at POR on July 4 of this year. Room requests on the origional reservation dont mean much as they dont make it to the point where room assignments are made. Fax your requests in on the morning 3 days in advance to your hotel. This was from the manager working at the front desk around 4pm. But yes I have also been told that fax requests arent used anymore, but what the heck, whats 5 min and a piece of paper.

This also seems to be true, and the more changes you make the more pages of reservation info that is on your reservation number, therefore less likely to be seen because requests I think are at the very bottom.

I did the fax request, 4 days before checkin
and got everything I wanted at All Star Movies

close to food court, toy story section and no smoking room...

The only thing I requested via phone was toy story section.

Can't hurt...

YOU SIR ARE A GOD AMONG MEN!!!!!!!

your post just saved me some serious heartache. I originally made my honeymoon reservation in January...and at that time made a specific room request. Later on I called in and added the Free Dining.
We are less than 30 days out now and received our final guest Itenerary from WD Travel and I noticed that the dining had been added, but the previous room request was absent. No big deal....Just thought it did not print on all the paperwork so thought nothing of it.

After reading your post, I promptly called "407 w diz" to inquire and sure enough, when we added dining it dropped my room request and King size bed request.

I appreciate the info you past along....My wife and I would have hated spending our honeymoon in a queen size bed in the contemporary tower on the 5th floor overlooking the parking lot!!!!!

Well, don't get TOO excited. Room requests are just that - requests. Not garuntees. This is especially true for room views - unless you've paid for a specific view, requests will be honored if they can but they are under no obligation.

Hope for the best, but don't get upset if all your requests are not honored.

Let me be of some help...

We have been instructed at the Reservation Center that ALL of the Disney Resort Hotels will no longer accept or consider any room request faxed or mailed to them. If you try to call the resort directly before you check-in, the switchboard is instructed to redirect your call to the reservation center, not the front desk.

The best time to make requests for specific rooms, buildings, bedding (i.e. a king bed, bunk beds), smoking or non-smoking, ground-floor, connecting rooms, etc. is when you first book the reservation or as early as possible after your reservation is made. Please note, we at the reservation center have a VERY limited space to enter in room request, so please limit your requests. Also note, package bookings do have more space to enter requests then room-only bookings.

When you call to make any modifications, please have the reservation agent verify any requests you have made for your room are still there. Due to system challenges, the accommodations comment box on a reservation will clear when a modification is confirmed, erasing any requests that were noted. To ensure they are correctly re-entered, please ask us to read back to you what is there before the end of your call.

The resort room coordinators will do their best to honor as many request as possible, but will factor in the number of request made. For example if you have 10 different request and another guest made 1 or 2 requests, you may get some of the 10 honored, and the other guest may get all of their request honored. Although the Resort may start pre-assigning rooms up to 2-3 days prior to your arrival, your room assignment is never finalized or guaranteed until you have arrived and are checked-in to your resort. No one at DRC or the Resort itself will be able to disclosed what (if any) pre-assignments have been made, so please don't ask.

Please try to be general in your request. If you simply request room 1004 (because you know it is the closest to the bus stop) and it is not available, the resort does not know how to honor it. If you simply request a room close to transportation, and room 1004 is not available, the resort may assign you room 1005 next door, honoring the general request you made.

Be sure to always ask your reservation agent to check to see if what you want is even possible. For example, if you are booked in 2 standard (parking) view rooms at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, and you want connecting rooms, it cannot be honored, as there are no connecting standard view rooms at the Lodge. Also some room categories are all non-smoking, and some are all smoking optional. Many rooms now have limited bedding configurations. Request for king beds, or bunk beds may not be possible because there are none in the room category you are booked in. New for 2007, most bunk bed rooms are now a separate room category. Magic Kingdom view rooms are also now a separate room category.

Please keep in mind, rooms such as the Preferred Rooms at the Value Resorts are charged a preferred priced because they are the closest to the main hall with the Food Court, Bus Stop, Front Desk, etc. Please do not request to be near these locations if you are booked in a standard room. These type of request can not be honored or even considered as it is essentially asking for a free upgrade.

Finally, remember nothing will guarantee you get your requests; that really will always depend on what rooms are scheduled to be vacant on the date you check-in. Often there are only a few rooms in your room category for the room coordinators or front desk cast to choose from.

JP- Excellent info as always. We booked with another family as a grand gathering. Will they automatically try to keep us close together or is that something I should have requested? We are staying at POFQ so we cant be too far away from each other. Thanks

Try to check in as close to checkin time as possible because its easier to switch things around before everyone has checked in than at 6pm when the place is booked.

As one of the free benefits of booking as a Grand Gathering, your party will automatically have a higher priority for your rooms to be placed as close together as possible, no need to request this. You only need to request if you DO NOT want to be near the in-laws.:hammer:

You are very welcome.

The real credit should go to JPVonDrake. I have been lucky enough to have him as a friend and he fills me in on all the little quirks in the reservation system.
