Would it be faster to drive from Swan/Dolphin (where we are staying) to Magic Kingdom or is it faster to use the free transportation? Does it cost us to park at the park if we are a reort goer?

Fastest Way from Dolphin to MK?

Faster to drive (about 5 mins), although you will then need to take the monorail or ferry to the MK from the TTC.
The Disney bus will drop you right at the entrance - however, the busses can take around 15 - 20 minutes to get you there.
Your Swan or Dolphin ID gets you free parking at the parks.

Sounds good, and what about handicapped parking spaces (my Father in law)? Are they near the monorail?

Yep at the TTC the spaces are right up at the front just minutes from the monorail or ferry.

We still take the bus b/c it drops you off right at the front entrance to the Magic Kingdom...no trams from the parking lot to the ticketing area and then no monerail or bus wait....this comes in handy if you have a stroller or wheelchair. we drive to most of the parks ourselves but we found at the MK it was easier to take the bus. Yes you have to wait for the bus but it was just easier.

Sorry but first time in WDW?Where have you been all your life?Well your life is about to change.I wish you where staying in a Disney resort but keep that in mind you are not getting the full Disney experience at your resort.Enjoy and have a good trip.:wave:
