Fantasyland Too Broke

Greetings,

Just got back from a 5 day excursion to WDW. First trip since last December. We usually go 2 to 3 times per year. A few observations...

As a 'purist', I have never been to Universal in over 50 some trips to Orlando. Yet this time I made it to Citywalk so Julie and I could eat at Emerils. As fans of his show we wanted to make the trip. The food was excellent and highly recommended.

Got to know some really nice, kind, informed cast members and had some excellent conversations.

Can anyone confirm a story that I was told. When the Magic Kingdom was originally built I was told that money ran out when they got to Fantasyland. The original 'vision' was not achieved I suppose. The comment was that Fantasyland looked like some kind of German tent carnival and not as much like Disneyland's Version. This was new to me and I was curious about other's opinions.

My wife and I went to the rehabbed shutters at Caribbean Beach and we were chosen to be the 'guest of honor'. We got free drinks, souvenir mugs, and a special table. We were a little overwhelmed to say the least. They took our photo and we had flowers at our table. Apparently, we were just chosen at random.

Stayed at Coronado for the first time. Great resort,..good experience. Although I am starting to question the comfort of Disney resort bedding. I've stayed most of the resorts and I never seem to get a mattress that sleeps well. Maybe its just me.

Shutters is very good, a tremendous improvemnt over Captain's Tavern, especially in the location and now overall atmosphere.

I've never heard that about Fantasyland but it certainly doesn't mean that it isn't true. However I think that that would be a very big Disney "secret" and I'm sure that someone on here knows the truth. However, I am been to dozens and dozens of websites with "supposedly" Disney secrets and I've never heard it mentioned.

Keep in mind that DL is on it's second Fantasyland.
WDW's Fantasyland is very similar to the original one at DL, having the theme medeval carnival.
DL redid theirs in the early 1980's to the wonderful villiage theme it has today, which is far nicer than WDW's, though much smaller.

The running out of money story is from DL. They went with the tent theme when Walt could not afford to do what he wanted, which is pretty much what they did in the 80's.

I stayed at the Beach Club, and believe it or not, the bed was actually not too bad. Although for $500 a night, they should be more comfortable than my bed at home! I don't know if it was being in the parks all day, the sun, or whatever else, but I slept GREAT. My wife did too, and she has back problems and is pretty fussy when it comes to matresses. :snore: :snore: :snore:

Large Amounts of Benjammins....

Although Clinton did it with the Lincoln Bedroom, I think you would see WDW sell the naming rights to the castle before they turned it into a motel room (Ie. Exxon's Cinderella Castle). The whole concept of renting out that room is so absurd, although so is the theme-ing for the Disney All Star Motels ("I hope we get to stay in the giant Soda Bottle this time!!").

I've heard numbers on simple Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings, that would put the average person in shock. There not meant for everyone. You are requesting to rent around the clock out a portion of a place that to some people has more sanctity then The Vatican. Think about it.

This would be filed under Priceless. It is an International symbol. If you absolutely had to put a price....I hate to even try, but the demand would be so great world wide---$60,000 to $100,000 a night. I am dead serious. If each occupant stayed a three night average. That is only 100+ opportunities to stay there a year. Michael Jackson paid $400,000 for an oversized vase. He wouldn't think twice about dishing out that kind of money for a night in the castle.

PS I think it would be a little hard to take a nap during Cinderella's Surprise Celebration.

I may be way off,
