Fantasmic or Star Wars?

Good morning I'm after a little bit of advice I have scheduled HS just for one day and am on the DDP.

Currently I have secured Fantasmic and dining at brown Derby (all included in my plan). However the Star Wars times have just been released and have booked the dessert party also.

The timings are too close together to do both so do I cancel Star Wars or just do the dinner followed by Fantasmic?

The Star Wars fireworks are getting great reviews but so does Fantasmic.

The children are 12, 11, 9 and 7 what are people's opinions on what would suit the children more?

1) Have you ever seen Fantasmic before ?
2) When you say the timings are close - exactly how close ?

We visited DHS last August and having exited Fantasmic we rushed out and caught the finale of Frozen fireworks. I doubt that DHS would have two lots of fireworks overlapping.

If youve never been to Fantasmic, I'd say take that in with your kids. Unless your kids are all super crazy about SW. After all, its about giving them what they want at Disney. You can watch both shows on Youtube with them and get a feel for what theyd rather do.

Dessert party starts at 6.45pm but fireworks at 8pm and Fantasmic is at 7.30pm. On the WDW prep school it advises not to do both as its too much of a rush and you end up with a poor view of the fireworks anyway, I'm also concerned that my 7 year old maybe slightly lagging by then and won't want to rush around.

They do love Star Wars and to be honest I'm more swayed to that as my poor son will be dragged everywhere doing princess stuff with his 3 sisters so this is more keyed towards him.

I'll take your advice and watch the YouTube videos - they can't see them as they still don't know they are going

I would do dinner and Fantasmic and then when you come out of Fantasmic, you should be able to catch the fireworks. I would say skip the dessert party.
Unless it's changed, when I was there in February, we stood about 15 feet from where the dessert party was to watch the fireworks and there are only tables, so all the people in the roped off area were standing there at tall tables. I personally don't think it's worth the extra cost.
We have done the Wishes dessert party and the Osborne Lights dessert party and those were nice because you had a table with chairs so you could sit and enjoy a few desserts after walking miles through the park all day. Just my opinion.
Also, are you able to split up? Maybe give your son the chance to choose only the fireworks if he really doesn't want to miss any of them? Good luck!

I would definitely suggest watching the videos on YouTube like someone else above said. That has helped us the most when trying to deciding what rides and shows our kids will like the best.

Fireworks are up in the sky - they can be seen from anywhere !!!
If the SW Spectacular was primarily fireworks, you might have a point. But they're not. The new event is very different from the one they showed earlier in the year. If you aren't forward of the two light (?) towers, you will have little/no chance to see the laser and projection effects, which are now a major part of the show. And if you haven't staked out a spot 30-60 min in advance......

Regarding seeing the fireworks after F! , ^^^ see my previous comment.

Regarding the dessert party, the food and drinks part of the party moved to a section of Launch Bay back in July. Weather factors and logistics made the move to an indoor location a must. Party guests are then escorted by CMs to the reserved viewing area shortly before the show. There is a roped off area in the front of the reserved section for children, who can sit on the ground. The adults stand, just like everyone else. There are no tables or chairs.

Not too helpful if you're somewhere that trees or buildings block your view...
The new Star Wars fireworks show is also very projection heavy.

Yeah. I was standing face on and no projections because of rain. Fireworks still went off but it was a yawner without the projections.

Thank you for your comments most helpful. Having watched both on you tube now I think for us Star Wars is more of a must than Fantasmic. I know I know there will be a lot of comments about that but the kids love Star Wars and when watching the you tube I thought wow how amazing is that.

Started watching it again today from episode one just a normal family Saturday afternoon film with the children still clueless about us going next month
