Fantasic Question

Anyone know how Steamboat Mickey appears on the boat in the end? When the boat pulls close you cannot see Mickey but when the sparks go off, he appears. Is this due to dark lighting, is he hidden, or something else?
Attached (hopefully) is a video from the show part I am talking about and it may jump a bit as I had to use a screen recorder to record this. NOTE: This is not my video. Also, just checked there is a huge jump from the boat to the Mickey appearing and sorry if the video does not help with figuring this out.

I think its mostly a timing issue. He's supposed to magically appear at the helm but sometimes the timing is off and you see him run up. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't depending on lighting and timing. He's hiding away from the sparks and then on cue takes his place at the helm

Yeah, you can see in the close-up of that video how it appears that Mickey has been standing outside the wheelhouse, next to the smokestacks and is stepping into the wheelhouse just as the close-up shot begins. And because of a combo of angles and lighting, you don't see him until the lights come up and he (hopefully) has stepped in to where the wheel is.

Actually, if you want to watch something funny/interesting, keep watching the boat after Mickey appears up on the mountain. Because of her fins, poor Ariel has to hide under a fireproof blanket at the back of the boat during the fireworks while all the other characters get to crowd underneath the two overhangs in the middle.

Thanks for those answers. Also, how can I watch the boat after Mickey appears on the mountain, it is already gone and hidden behind the mountain right? Or Rob do you mean just before he appears and as the boat is about to be concealed by the mountain? Thanks!

:ROFLOL:I always watch for that everytime I see Fantasmic. I don't know why I find it so funny to see Prince Eric and one of the other characters throw a tarp over her and then run but it always gets me LOL

Probably the reason they didn't is that I think she has to be covered when the boat is coming out and they have the firework spinners on the side burning. Then as soon as the other characters come out they can pull off the tarp while still concealed by the boat coming around the corner.

Usually you see Eric go get the tarp right before the spots turn off on the boat and then right when they go off they throw it over her and then run off. If it were me, I would have put Ariel toward the front of the ship where that action would be a little more concealed but i'm glad they didn't because it entertains me LOL

It's also a lot more noticable if you're sitting in the left-hand sections of the theater. The boat is visible (but unlit) for quite a bit during the Sorcerer Mickey segment while it completes its loop around the island.
